At night from June 2 to 3, the enemy took active offensive actions in Marinka as part of the continuation of the old line associated with intensive shelling of the front-line cities of the DPR and carrying out local offensive actions with forces up to the RTG. In the morning, the VSN positions reported that they were having difficulty repelling enemy attacks.

2. In the morning, reserves were brought up from Donetsk - combined groups of various units + armored vehicles. Judging by fragmentary data, our forces brought up to 1,500 people and up to 40 armored vehicles into action against the enemy forces (part of the 28th brigade, the Kiev battalion and reinforcement units). Both sides were actively supported by artillery fire, and cases of the use of MLRS were also noted.

3. During the attack that began, the junta’s positions on the outskirts of Marinka were worked out by artillery, after which the infantry went into battle and began to enter the residential areas of Marinka from the northeast. The junta clearly did not expect these attacks, so we can say that at the initial stage of the battles for the capture of Maryinka, the VSN were able to achieve some tactical surprise.

4. The Kiev battalion could not withstand the concentrated attack, suffered serious losses and began to retreat. In the background achieved successes euphoria arose, which resulted in hasty statements that the offensive, or, if you prefer, the counter-offensive, ended with the capture of Marinka with the hanging of the DPR flag. At the same time, the junta began to panic. which was stopped only in the evening. The media announced a “strategic withdrawal” from Marinka, volunteers and military personnel began writing about big losses and that the 28th brigade and the Kiev battalion were suffering heavy losses and were withdrawing. In general, against the backdrop of heavy fighting in Marinka, our armchair army was in euphoria, and the Ukrainian army was in panic.

5. Ours rolled out to the hospital, but encountered serious enemy resistance, which was supported by artillery fire, and stalled, and as the commander of the Ryazan DRG shows, the enemy resistance turned out to be so powerful that our units in the captured positions almost immediately found themselves in a very difficult situation , since the enemy clearly surpassed our assault forces in firepower.

6. While street fighting was going on in Marinka, reinforcements approached the enemy from the direction of Kurakhovo - tanks and motorized infantry. At the same time, the VSN also sent reinforcements to the village. At the same time, the artillery of the sides worked on suitable reserves (there is not fully confirmed information that ours successfully covered one of the columns coming from Kurakhovo, as a result of which about 20 pieces of equipment were burned there). There are reports from the junta that there were losses on our side as we approached the village. It is still very difficult to determine the total losses of the parties in technology.

7. Towards evening, the advance of the VSN in the village stalled, and the captured positions were subjected to heavy fire from enemy tanks and artillery, the battles entered a purely positional phase. By about 4-5 o'clock in the afternoon, the junta command finally figured out the situation and, realizing that not everything was so bad, cautiously reported that the positions were being held and there was no breakthrough, although cries about a possible cauldron continued on both sides of the front.

8. The VSN command decides to close up shop and, under the cover of tanks and infantry, ours retreat to their main positions, leaving behind only part of what was captured in the morning and afternoon of June 3. Both sides accuse each other of complying with the Minsk agreements, while the enemy attacks. In fact, both sides tried to attack yesterday and both sides were unable to achieve decisive success in these actions. Of course, they routinely blamed Russia for everything that was happening; they didn’t even remember about the junta’s shelling of the cities of the DPR and the night attempt of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to move our positions.

9. As a result of heavy fighting on June 3, both sides suffered serious losses in people - in only one of the DPR special forces with whose representatives we spoke yesterday, 25 were killed during the fighting in Marinka. The total figure was stated to be around 40 killed, but in reality it could be higher.
According to the participants in yesterday's battles, the enemy had more than 200 casualties - the main losses fell on the retreating "Kyiv" battalion and those units that were subjected to concentrated artillery fire at checkpoints in the Maryinka area and on the approach from Kurakhovo. As a result, we are still collecting blood for hospitals in Donetsk, from the junta for a hospital in Kurakhovo and for hospitals in Kyiv, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk and other cities where heavy 300s were taken out after yesterday’s meat grinder. In general, what was happening was reminiscent of the battles for Sands in the winter of 2015. A stubborn battle without decisive results. If we talk about those who fought for Marinka, both the assault groups of the DPR special forces and the junta infantry from the 28th brigade performed well, demonstrating good stability in defense. The artillery of both sides also performed well. In general, the parties turned out to be worthy of each other.

Ultimately, after the losses suffered and the uncertain results of the battle for Marinka, the parties today are obviously licking their wounds and the intensity of the fighting in the Marinka area has sharply decreased. The junta failed to realize its offensive plans on the night of June 2-3, and the VSN were unable to take Marinka during retaliatory actions in the morning and afternoon of June 3. As a result, the parties generally remained in favor of their own - the front line shifted slightly in favor of the VSN, for which both sides paid with a large amount of blood. At the same time, during yesterday's fighting and shelling in Marinka and suburban areas of Donetsk, approximately 15-20 civilians were killed and dozens were injured. Overall, this is the bloodiest day of the war in Ukraine since the end of the Battle of Debaltsevo, when the Ukrainian Armed Forces suffered huge losses while trying to escape from the cauldron.

Whether these battles will continue will depend on the conclusions that the command draws from the analysis of the results of the battle for Marinka. In general, frontal attempts to storm heavily fortified points do not promise immediate success, and as the experience of victorious operations of the VSN shows, success was achieved not in such positional battles, but where it was possible to find a weakness in the enemy’s formations, as was the case during the battles for Kozhevnya and Marinovka in the summer of 2014, as it happened with the Amvrosievsky and Ilovaisky cauldrons, as it happened with the Lutuginsky cauldron and as it happened with Logvinovo and Uglegorsk. But persistent assaults on Pesky, Avdeevka, Nikishino, Chernukhino - as a rule, gave very modest results with significant losses.
