Do-it-yourself circular saw - reliable, practical, cheap! How to make a circular saw with your own hands How to make a homemade sawing machine for chipboard.

Circular ( wooden device) with your own hands

The round wood machine is a stationary equipment with a circular saw blade. In addition to the slitting machine pendulum saw(cross-cut device) also falls under the concept of a “circular saw”, which is characterized by the mobility of the saw blade fed to a fixed lumber.

Circular (woodworking machine): types

Depending on the design of the device, the following types can be distinguished into which the circular tree is divided:

  • Table type suitable for home use. Accordingly, a name placed on a table or workbench has an average weight of 25 kg. Once the job is completed, the machine can be hidden. The maximum straight cutting depth is 75 mm.
  • Stationary type. Used on average and large production maximum 125 mm. Using a stationary circular type, the most accurate and high-quality work is performed.
  • Circular machine with stand: it can process long boards thanks to its inclined support. Folding legs allow the machine to be transported. The maximum cutting depth is 85 mm.

Additional types are selected according to the location of the saw blade:

  • Horizontal sawing machines. The saw is parallel to the frame.
  • Vertical sawing machines. The cutting blade is perpendicular to the frame, the saw can be open or semi-open.
  • Angle type: two disks operating simultaneously, located at right angles to each other.

All of the listed types of equipment can be professional and used for home use. The difference lies in the power of the machines, the number of tools and additional options.

Round wood design

Industrial and household circular saws are standard equipment. It consists of the following elements:

The main part of the circular machine to which all other pieces of equipment are attached. The frame is usually made of cast iron or strong steel to ensure stability and vibration-free operation during operation, so as not to complicate the process. If the frame is made of wood, it must be secured with stiffeners

  1. Working surface.

The table for placing saw material is a working surface. As a rule, its upper part is made of metal or cast iron; on the surface there are guides and rulers for measuring lumber and ease of installation. The part of the working surface on which the saw blade is located is usually removable, which makes it easy to replace. The saw slot must match the thickness of the blade, otherwise, with large size, the slot will be constantly filled with chips and sawdust.

The thickness of the processed wood depends on the diameter of the circular saw blade of the woodworking machine. The disk must be installed so that 1/3 of its diameter does not exceed the working surface.

Professional equipment is usually equipped with a guard to protect the operator from contact with the saw blade, as well as from pressing the lumber.

Homemade circular saw with your own hands (circular saw, sawing table)

Homemade circular (sawing or saw machine) can be done with your own hands.

This element serves as a guide for smooth cutting. The longitudinal stop must be made of rigid material and not move during operation; it is fixed in at least two places.

The drive consists of a motor and a shaft on which the saw blade is mounted. For high-quality processing of lumber, a two-phase or three-phase motor with a power of 1200-1500 W is required. The shaft for attaching the saw must have dimensions corresponding to internal diameter blade, and ensure it is securely and securely fastened.

Homemade circular saws, provided they are assembled correctly, can produce high-quality cuts and have a service life that is on par with factory-made models.

Do-it-yourself circular carving on wood

To assemble a homemade car model, you will need the following materials and tools:

  1. A metal sheet
  2. plywood
  3. Cross beam 50×50 mm
  4. Board 50×100 mm
  5. Steel corner
  6. Clamps
  7. Screwdriver, electric drill
  8. Measuring instruments
  9. Hacksaw for saw or paw
  10. Manual freezer

A homemade circular must meet the following requirements:

  • Capital rigidity and structural stability, on which equipment safety indicators depend.
  • Straight work surface
  • Grounding the machine
  • Free space for sawdust
  • Free access to wood waste for disposal
  • Availability protective casing above the rotating disk.

When choosing a saw, you should take into account the quality requirements and safe operation: safe fastening of the disk, working with the saw, as well as the presence of a start and stop button for the sawing machine.

A round wooden one with your own hands can be assembled from an ordinary Bulgarian or corner grinding machine. Basis for homemade car Can also be a hand-held circular saw or electric drill. Before assembling a homemade model, you need to think about its design, calculate the load to which it will be subjected.

To begin, create a stable frame or workbench. The main ring model does not always require a metal welded structure, since it cannot withstand such loads as a powerful industrial equipment. If the saw blade speed does not exceed 4500 rpm during operation, the workbench can be made of wood.

Frame dimensions are calculated based on the basic parameters of the equipment, in particular the dimensions of the saw. At this stage, you need to determine the power of the saw blade. Generally, homemade circle wood for your own use for home use is made using a saw with a power of no more than 850 watts. But to build a house, it is necessary to process a much larger volume of lumber; accordingly, the power parameters of the saw will be different. In this case, experts do not recommend installing a saw with a power of more than 1250 W. it would not be justified by the costly and safety-risky equipment.

The frame must provide for the possibility of lowering and raising the disk, as well as the location of the equipment control panel. When placing control buttons, it is necessary to take into account their safe position relative to the cutting blade. this could be the outside of the machine or a growing countertop.

To produce a work surface you can use a metal sheet, plywood or chipboard.

An indispensable element of a homemade machine are guides for accurate and even sawing of wood. The guide structure is made of welded angle steel and is attached to the tabletop using clamps. It is not advisable to rigidly fix the guides in order to be able to change their position in the future.

The area of the groove for the saw and the fixation of fasteners are indicated on the bottom side of the tabletop. The legs of the tabletop are made of rod; the height of the support is selected individually for convenience. Additional stability of the work station will be attached to the legs with steel corners and tightening the supports along the diagonal rails.

The table top can be spread apart or attached to the table top for easy cutting.

A grinder or hand-held circular saw is mounted on the bottom of the workbench so that the circular saw is guided to the surface through a slot. It is necessary to check the angle of the saw: it should be 90 degrees.

All structural elements are fastened using self-tapping screws.

These homemade circular saws can process wood up to 4 mm thick, as well as chipboard, fiberboard, and plywood. The advantage of homemade machines is the choice of their size, power, productivity, depending on the desired qualities.

The chainsaw chain sharpening machine allows you to speed up and simplify the function of sharpening the cutting edges of the saw chain. A chainsaw is an indispensable tool when carrying out work that involves the use of wood. When pruning trees and shrubs, sawing trunks, you cannot do without using a chain...

The main component of a home carpentry workshop is the circular saw. It is intended for primary processing of materials manually or automatically. Due to the high cost of factory equipment, craftsmen most often come to the conclusion that it is best to make this machine with their own hands.

Requirements for household circular machines

Structurally, a homemade circular saw should not differ from factory models. They consist of a support table, in the center of which there is a slot for a saw blade. In addition, the design contains measuring components, elements for fixing the workpiece and ensuring operational safety.

Before manufacturing, you must familiarize yourself with the basic requirements for its components. It is important that they fit each other not only structurally, but also in technical parameters. To do this, you can take a diagram of a typical design of a factory woodworking machine.

Complete set of woodworking sawing equipment:

  • table. Should have sufficient stability, the surface of the tabletop should be perfectly flat;
  • power point. The main parameters of the electric motor for rotating the disk are power and number of revolutions;
  • additional components. These include stops for fixing wooden blank, rulers for measuring.

Advantage homemade models is the ability to choose its dimensions, performance and other technical parameters. In the process of drawing up a manufacturing scheme, you can select the optimal table height, tabletop dimensions, and electric motor characteristics. Doesn't have this hand tool for woodworking.

The requirements for woodworking discs directly depend on the parameters of the workpiece, the type of wood and the required productivity speed. This is calculated on an individual basis.

Materials for making a circular saw

After drawing up the optimal drawing for the manufacture of stationary equipment with your own hands, you need to select Consumables. To do this, you can purchase rolled metal or use existing components.

The main problem is the choice power unit. Some recommend installing the factory manual model circular saw. However, they often do not have the necessary processing power large volumes wood. In addition, the limitation on disk diameter will reduce functionality equipment. Therefore, it is best to choose drawings in which there are two separate blocks - an electric motor and a shaft for attaching the disk.

The connection of the load-bearing elements of the desktop is done using DIY welding. Mechanical components will not provide adequate reliability, since backlash will form due to constant vibration.

  • table. Can be used for legs steel corners 30*30 or 40*40 mm;
  • tabletop. It is made of dense chipboard, although experts believe the best option use of steel sheet. In this case, a lattice structure is made at the top of the table;
  • electric motor You can use any household asynchronous model power plant 220 V, the power of which does not exceed 1.5 kW, and maximum amount speed is 2400 rpm;
  • a system of pulleys for transmitting torque on a shaft with a disk. It is best to use factory pulleys. A tension system must be provided.

To fix the workpiece along its length, it is necessary to provide a support bar. It should move relative to the plane of the disk, thereby adjusting the width of the board being processed with your own hands.

Before welding, all steel workpieces must be free of rust. Painting is carried out only after the final production of the saw machine with your own hands.

Assembling a homemade circular saw

After preparing the components, you can begin assembling the wood structure. Drawings are drawn up in advance, which indicate all the parameters of the elements: dimensions, welding locations, areas of mandatory processing.

First, you assemble the frame of the saw machine with your own hands. It is necessary to provide places for mounting the shaft with the disk and the electric motor. The pulleys should be located on the outer part. This is necessary for periodic tensioning of transmission belts and prompt repairs.

According to the diagram, a slot is made in the center of the tabletop through which the disk will pass. The edges of the material must be processed, but the tabletop must be smooth. The plane of the disk must be strictly perpendicular to the surface of the table. Recommended slot sizes: width - up to 5 cm; length - up to 400 mm.

The electric motor control unit is located in front of the cutting area. This will help prevent chips from getting into electrical components.

At the design and manufacturing stages, a do-it-yourself wood sawing machine must have the most important criterion for this equipment – the quality of cutting of semi-finished products (wood).

It is worth focusing on the fact that at the stage of designing the unit it is necessary to achieve its versatility and relative cheapness relative to the component materials. Initially, a complete understanding of the principle of performing future work is required, and it is also necessary to outline the working surface where the technological operations will be directly performed.

Principle of operation

The main working part of a wood sawing machine is a metal cutting wheel, which separates the material along a pre-marked tree or sheet.

To achieve the best quality characteristics semi-finished products processed on this equipment, two electric motors are used: the first, which performs the main function (rotation of the working disk), and the second, which is not as powerful as the one described above.

Its main function is to trim an already completed cut. Such a design will allow you to “get away” from burrs and cut semi-finished products with the highest possible quality.

List of materials

As for manufacturability, it is quite easy to design a sawing machine, therefore, subsequent costs for its maintenance will be minimized. Below is a list of materials that you will need to assemble such equipment with your own hands:

  • metal sheets (σ=3...5 mm);
  • square pipes;
  • 2 electric drives (one with a power of 500 kW, the other with a power of 200 kW);
  • flywheels and belt drives (automotive ones can be used);
  • electrical cable;
  • automatic switch.

Three-millimeter sheet metal is used as cladding for a body made of “square” pipes. Usually, the frame has the form of a welded cube; inside it, using the same rolled pipes, a holder for the motor is made. The dimensional characteristics of the base are calculated individually; you should not forget that the working surface will be proportional to the size.

Rolled sheets 5 millimeters thick are used to construct the working bed itself. You must first provide a hole rectangular section for the movement of the working body.

DIY sawing machine: manufacturing process

It is best to order the electrical part from a professional, or call a neighbor who understands this topic for help, rather than performing this operation yourself. In most cases, it is the electrical wiring that fails at the most critical moment.

You must always remember that when working with semi-finished wood products, “dunes” of shavings appear near the machine, which can very easily ignite, therefore, the power supply of such equipment must be done by a real master.

Mounting the working plane on the frame with your own hands will not require total effort and supernatural capabilities. The most labor-intensive process: marking the cuts. A cardboard material is taken relative to your future desktop, and an elongated hole is made in the area where it joins the working body.

The hole must be positioned so that during operation the disk does not touch the cardboard and is at least 2 mm relative to the edge of the semi-finished product being processed. Also a responsible operation is the designation of the adjustment slot for the adjustment die.

Having made a guide using 5 mm rolled metal, the width of which corresponds to the working plane, and the height parameter is about 40 mm, it is mounted welding machine symmetrically about the center 2 screws Ø 12…14 mm. These bolts provide adjustment and movement of the static guide ram.

All the necessary cutouts are cut on the cardboard blank, a guide die is mounted, and welded to the base.

After installing all the necessary components, you need to connect the sawing unit to electrical network, and also check the correct rotation of the working body. The circle must rotate towards the processed semi-finished product.

It is best to perform a test run of such equipment at a certain distance, using a carrier and a circuit breaker.

After completing the check, you need to do a test on the power capabilities of the machine. There are two ways to do this.

Checking the power unit of the machine

Method #1:

Connect the electric motor contacts and measure the load at idle using an ammeter. If the measured parameters are higher than the nominal value, which is indicated in the engine passport, then it is necessary to eliminate these electrical problems.

If the load parameter is within the normal range, then try to perform the work by selecting the thickness of the material being processed so that the ammeter reading is one division lower than the nominal value. This will be the maximum thickness that can be cut on this equipment. If there is not enough power, then you can try changing the engine to a more powerful one.

Method #2:

We connect the unit to the existing electrical circuit, press the “Start” button, wait until the machine reaches the full nominal speed. We tactilely measure the heating level of the electric motor.

The permissible value is in the region of 60 -75ºС. If this temperature is maintained, then a person can calmly hold his hand on the body for 3 seconds. During operation, it is recommended to periodically check the electric motor for overheating.

Machine maintenance

Repairing and inspecting homemade sawing equipment is a fairly simple task. You just need to follow simple rules:

  • maintain the cleanliness of components and equipment in general, especially its electrical parts;
  • perform work exclusively with electrically insulating gloves and goggles that can protect from dust;
  • lubricate all fasteners;
  • balance the cutting tool;
  • construct a fire shield near the equipment.

Having such equipment, you will not only simplify any renovation work, but you can also earn extra money from this by renting out a car or helping others perform technological operations. Also, having assembled a wood sawing machine with your own hands, you will always know how to quickly and reliably repair it, as well as put it back into operation.

Video: DIY wood sawing machine.

Mikhail - invented and made a sawing machine

In our work on apartment renovation, we often have to deal with woodworking, especially when the renovation is nearing completion. During this period the installation is carried out interior doors, laying parquet or parquet board, laminate, installation of skirting boards, assembly and installation of furniture. Often you need to cut something wooden and do it straight. Portable tools, such as a jigsaw or a circular saw, of course help out in such cases, but they cannot compete in terms of convenience and cutting accuracy with a stationary sawing machine, even a homemade one. Therefore, we always wanted to acquire such a unit. We even thought about purchasing finished machine, but somehow we didn’t come across anything that met our requirements. Chance helped, as they say: there would have been no happiness, but misfortune helped. On our circular saw, the fastening to the metal frame broke, that is, the motor is running, the disc is spinning, but there is no stop, we almost threw the device away. So Mikhail started thinking about how to use the broken tool. Moreover, he had long been thinking about a homemade sawing machine. I did some magic for a while, thought about it and made an easy and convenient sawing, and what’s more, it’s completely free.

Homemade sawing design.

The machine turned out to be surprisingly successful, and most importantly mobile, which is important in our work. Made on the basis collapsible table from Ikea with retractable legs. It can be easily delivered to the site and used for its intended purpose. When assembled, the device takes up very little space and fits in the trunk passenger car. All replaceable disks and so on are placed inside the casing. Due to the fact that the main material for the manufacture of the sawing machine was 10 mm plywood, it turned out to be very light, but at the same time quite accurate and strong. The design includes a removable dust collection box and even storage space for accessories.

Power button and disk output adjustment.

Worm mechanism for adjusting cutting depth.

We have previously used this circular saw as a stationary saw. This is what many carpenters do. The circular saw bed is screwed to a sheet of plywood or chipboard, a cut is made for the blade, then the sheet is turned over and secured to the legs. The saw button is fixed in the pressed position and the simplest sawing is ready. To adjust the release of the saw, the standard mechanism of the circular saw itself is used. In our case, we had to invent a new one, but this is for the better. Using a worm mechanism of our own design, the release of the disc is adjusted very precisely and smoothly, which allows you to do many different operations on the machine. You can easily select a quarter, make an even groove to a given depth, finger joint details. Adjustment is made by rotating the knob at the end of the sawing machine. There is also a power button located there, which ensures safety during operation. It must be said that the cutting accuracy on our machine is much higher than when working with a fixed circular saw. The surface of the saw table is polished and coated with an oil and wax based compound to protect it from moisture and better glide

details when submitting.

The disk is strictly perpendicular to the circular table.

The saw mechanism is covered from below with a casing made of plywood and hardboard. Most of the sawdust ends up here when the sawing machine operates; at the bottom of the box there is a hole where you can place a bucket or bag to collect dust. The hole can be plugged with a stopper for small amounts of work and sawdust can only be collected in the box. The casing itself can be easily removed for shaking out and cleaning. The removable casing covers only the area where the cutting disk of the machine is located, and the engine is located in another compartment and is not exposed to the destructive effects of dust. During intensive work, a lot of sawdust accumulates in the casing, which indicates good dust protection. Otherwise, all this dust would fly around the room. It felt like there was much less wood dust than when using a circular saw without a guard. Future plans to improve the design of the machine include equipping it with an impeller or fan for even better dust removal.

Removable box for collecting sawdust.

On the other hand, in the resulting empty space (where the engine is) there is an organizer for storing replaceable disks, a key for replacing them, and related tools. It turned out to be quite convenient, you don’t have to worry about where to store it all and you won’t accidentally forget to take something you need, otherwise all your work could get wasted.

Homemade devices for precise cutting of wood.

Several devices needed for high-quality cutting wood. The stop rail with a lock ensures precise parallel cutting of wood. The workpiece is fed along a stop rail, which prevents the part from slipping and sets the size. The lock allows you to quickly reconfigure the machine.

Stop rail for parallel cutting.

The facing carriage helps to saw off workpieces strictly at right angles, which is a necessary condition in the manufacture of furniture and other tasks requiring high precision manufacturing. Large sleds for trimming have also been made. The situation is that for almost every task, you can make a special cutting device, which facilitates the work and increases the accuracy of manufacturing wood parts. If you have plywood and straight hands, this is not a problem.

Carriage for trimming.

This is the machine we have for cutting wood. Of course, we will not compete with the plant in the production of power tools, but for our tasks such a device is quite sufficient. It cuts smoothly and quickly, now it’s even difficult to imagine that you used to saw anything by hand, you quickly get used to the good stuff - the jigsaw is gathering dust in the garage. It became possible to make all sorts of interesting things from wood, chipboard, plywood and other similar materials. For example, this machine and router were used to make oak furniture for the bathroom. Perhaps in the future we will improve this machine or make another one, we will inform you about the results additionally!

Trimming the workpiece using a slide.

When designing and manufacturing a sawing machine with your own hands, the most important criterion for the result obtained is the quality and evenness of the wood cut. It is worth noting that when designing a machine, it is necessary to make it universal and relatively inexpensive to build. First, you need to understand the principle of operation and determine the working area that you need.

Operating principle and tasks of the machine

The main cutting part is a steel disk, which cuts pre-designed and prepared wood or chipboard sheet. To increase the quality of cutting and operation of the machine, two electric motors are used: one main one for rotating the cutting disk, and a second less powerful one for cutting wood. This design allows you to avoid scuffing and performs better cuts.

Necessary materials

Technologically, making a machine is quite simple, so the costs for it will be minimal. Here's the list minimum quantity materials needed to assemble the machine with your own hands:

  • sheet metal 2 and 5 mm thick;
  • square pipes;
  • two electric motors of approximate power of 500 and 200 kW;
  • flywheels and belts (can be used from a car);
  • wires;
  • automatic switch.

2 mm sheet metal is used for covering frames made of square pipes. As a rule, the frame is a welded cube, inside of which a holder for the engine is made from the same pipe in the form of two transverse straight lines. The size of the frame is calculated individually; it is worth remembering that the size of the working surface depends on the size.

Sheet metal 5 mm is used to make the working surface itself. Having previously done rectangular hole for the output of the cutting disc. A cut is also made across the working surface for an adjustable guide.

Build process

The first thing you need to do is weld the frame. All angles must be 90 degrees for maximum structural strength. If you are thinking about creating a large sawing machine, you need to increase the strength by welding in additional reinforcement in the form of gussets and diagonal inserts.

The hardest part is installing the electric motor. In order for the machine to function correctly and make straight cuts, it is necessary to install the electric motor horizontally using building level. After marking the mounting location of the machine, two crossbars are welded to the frame, onto which the electric motor is installed using standard fasteners on the sides.

The next equally important step is to center the pulleys on the electric motor shaft. A pulley is required for machine variants with a double cutting element. For small machines, one is enough. If you decide to make a wood saw with a small working surface, you need to center the cutting blade on the shaft and tighten it with two nuts.

Electrical part

It is better to do the electrical wiring from a familiar technician, or contact a professional electrician, than to do it yourself. Often it is the wiring that fails at the most inopportune moment. It is worth noting that, as a rule, when working with wood, piles of sawdust are formed around the machine, which are easily flammable, so it is better to entrust the issue of powering the machine to a professional.

Installing the working area on the frame with your own hands does not require any special skills. The hardest part is: marking the cuts. To do this, take cardboard according to the size of your future desktop, cut out an oblong hole in the place where it rests on the cutting element. The hole is located in such a way that when rotating the disk does not scratch the cardboard and is at least 3 mm from the edge of the workpiece. We retreat to right side 5 mm, and draw a perpendicular line and draw a 7 mm thick contour around it. Thus, we designate the adjustment slot of the guide die.

Having cut out a strip of 5 mm metal, the width of the working plane, and a height of 50 mm, we weld two bolts with a diameter of 12 mm symmetrically to the center. With these bolts we will regulate the movement and displacement of the thrust guide bar of the working surface.

We cut out all the necessary slots using the cardboard blank, install the guide die and weld it directly to the frame.

After installing all the equipment, you need to connect the sawing machine to the network with your own hands and check the correct rotation of the circle. The circle should rotate clockwise (toward the board).

When conducting test runs, it is strictly forbidden to be in the immediate vicinity of rotating mechanisms and to help them start with your own hands.

It is best to make the first start remotely using a long carry and a circuit breaker.

After checking, it is necessary to test the power capabilities of the unit. There are several ways to do this.

Checking the power unit of the machine

1 way

Connect an ammeter to the motor contacts and measure the load at idle. If the load is higher than the permissible (nominal) specified for this type of engine, then your problem is electrical. If the load is normal, we try to cut workpieces of different thicknesses and select such a thickness so that the ammeter value is 1 ampere less than the nominal one. That's what it is maximum thickness wood for processing. If you don't have enough power, you can change the electric motor itself to a more powerful one.

2 way

We connect the machine to the chain, start it up and wait until it completely “turns around” - start up. We try by touch the degree of heating of the electric. engine. Acceptable values are within 50 -70 degrees. At this temperature, a person can safely hold his hands on the engine body for more than three seconds. During operation, be sure to check the electric heating. engine.

Do-it-yourself machine maintenance

Maintenance of a homemade sawing machine with your own hands is simple. The main thing is to follow the following rules:

  • keep equipment clean;
  • work in gloves and safety glasses;
  • lubricate all fastening points;
  • lock the cutting disc;
  • make a fire corner near the machine.
Problem Cause Solution
Clamps the cutting disc Strong pressure on the workpiece when cutting.
Poorly secured disk on the electric shaft. dv.
Dull cutting element of the disc.
Use less effort when cutting into a workpiece.
Check the fastening of the blade to the shaft, tighten it more if necessary. Replace the cutting blade
