DIY wall ironing board. Making your own ironing board

From this video course you will learn how to make such an unusual furniture device. It's called: ironing board behind the façade.

If you are wondering what to practice on for the first time in order to test yourself as a furniture maker, this is just the best option for a beginner.

You will have the opportunity to work with:

laminated chipboard,
- chrome pipes,
- guides,
- mirrors or glass,
- facades.

These are almost all the main materials that are used in the modern furniture industry.

Manufacturing cost of the transformation system: 1500 rubles. The cost of decorating the facade: approximately 2000-3000 rubles. For training, you can divide the manufacturing process into two stages. If you manage to make a transformation system for 1,500 rubles, then as a second step you can think about making the façade part.

What's good about this device?

The first time I saw a similar thing was in 2012 at a furniture exhibition in Moscow.

It cost about 10,000 rubles back then. Today you can purchase a similar device at a price from 14,000 to 23,000 rubles. for finished product. The “ironing board” mechanism alone can be purchased from the manufacturer for 10,500 rubles.

And if you make this device yourself, it will cost you 5-6 thousand rubles along with a luxurious facade.

You will always find a use for this product. It won't go to waste! Perhaps you have been thinking for a long time about what to give to your girlfriend for her birthday or March 8th, or, for example, to your friends for a housewarming... It can be a great gift made by your own hands.

And at the same time, it will strengthen your self-confidence and give you the impetus to start making furniture with your own hands.

Believe me, such a thing can decorate any interior just with its presence. And if you are smart, you can decorate the facade as a portrait of your beloved girl, a painting or a stained glass window. What will make this product a unique and very expensive gift.

In this lesson we will look at the question of how to make an ANALOGUE of the transformation mechanism for the “ironing board” from chrome-plated pipes d=25mm. with your own hands.

I have divided the manufacturing process into several parts to make it easier for you to find the information you need.

Since these lessons are primarily intended for beginner “do-it-yourselfers”, I filmed several stories explaining technical points non-standard solutions.

I ask experienced craftsmen not to “kick me for the collective farm nature” of the assembly methods used. But I assure you, the result is appearance In the end, the product turns out no worse than those sold in the store. And considering that their cost is 5 times lower, you can close your eyes and smile. Because a person ignorant of furniture production will not understand what they have done there.

When cutting a pipe, a dilemma arises. If you cut with a hacksaw, then one blade is enough for 4-5 cuts. Then it becomes dull. The canvas costs 30 rubles. ($1) It takes a long time to saw, but when sawing, dust does not fly around the apartment. When sawing with a grinder, the sawing process goes much faster, but sparks and scale scatter throughout the room and the burning smell lingers for a long time.

Which method should I choose? I advise you to choose the sawing method with a grinder, but cut on the balcony or on the street.

In conclusion. Having made such a design and used it for a couple of weeks, the idea came to me that other products could be made on this basis.

For example, folding computer desk or workplace for a student in small apartment. Depending on which facade opening system you use (sliding or hinged), you may end up with something like an impromptu office. If the design box is made 200 mm wide, the monitor can be hung on the wall, and shelves for books and all sorts of small things can be placed in the niche.

And I also came up with the idea that using this principle, using a corridor mirror instead of an ironing board, you can make a folding ladies’ table like a boudoir “for makeup.” But what it will look like, think for yourself and if you come up with an idea, send your sketches to me at [email protected]

I will be glad to see your comments and constructive suggestions.

That's all. Thank you for your attention!

There is an ironing board in every apartment. This is an item that a modern housewife simply cannot do without. And everything would be fine if not for one “but”: usually the irons are quite large. Today we will tell you where to hide the ironing board so that it is always convenient to use and does not spoil the interior.

Ironing board on the wall

Often the space behind the door or on the walls is not used. The board does not require much space, so you can safely hang it on the walls. This will not interfere with your movement around the room and will save space. If you decide on this option, choose the upholstery of the ironing board to match the color of the curtains, furniture or accessories so that it decorates the interior and becomes part of it.

To secure the ironing iron to the wall, use regular coat hooks, which are usually used in hallways. It is enough to fix two such hooks on the wall and you can already hang your ironing board on them. Just make sure that the fastenings are reliable and can withstand the load. For these purposes, choose metal hooks.

Ironing board on the door

For expressive personalities who can slam the door in the heat of the moment, this option is clearly not suitable. But if you have a calm character and like to decorate your interior, you may be interested in the placement of the board on the door. You can attach it using the same principle as on the wall, using hooks.

Just for reliability, so that the ironer does not rattle every time it opens and closes, mount a few additional nails into the surface of the door and bend them. If necessary, you can use them to fix the ironing board, and it will be firmly secured.

In a drawer

Another very interesting option ironing iron storage – in drawer. Moreover, it can be either traditional horizontal or vertical. This is very convenient if you have a small board and a chest of drawers or a cabinet of sufficient depth.

Today there are also special built-in ironing boards that come with furniture. Pay attention to these options if you are going to update your furniture.

In a wall cabinet

If you like to make furniture with your own hands, you can make a special wall cabinet for the ironing machine. This will make your interior more harmonious and attractive, as well as functional.

The ironing board can be hidden in a single cabinet or the design can be supplemented with storage shelves household chemicals and various little things. And don’t forget that such a piece of furniture should fit harmoniously into your interior, so think carefully about it color scheme and the material from which it will be made.

Ironing board built into the cabinet – practical solution, allowing you to save space in the apartment. It easily folds back when you need to iron clothes, and immediately puts it back in place after use. The finished design is slightly more expensive than conventional ironing equipment, but you can make it yourself if you have the the right tools and some woodworking skills. A board made by yourself will fit exactly in size and fit better into the interior, because it can be decorated taking into account the design of the room.

To work you will need:

  • jigsaw;
  • construction stapler;
  • drill with wood drills;
  • metal ruler;
  • compass;
  • circular saw and fine-toothed disk;
  • sandpaper of different grain sizes or a grinder;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • pencil for marking;
  • piano or hinge hinges;
  • scissors;
  • hammer.

Materials that will be required to make a built-in board in a cabinet:

  • furniture board, sheet of ordinary or moisture-resistant plywood or chipboard with a minimum thickness of 12 mm;
  • 2 bars 40*70 mm or a sheet of plywood 10 mm thick;
  • wood glue;
  • thick fabric for backing;
  • natural sustainable fabric for decoration.

Work order

Having prepared necessary materials and tools, proceed to making the board.

The process of its creation consists of three points:

  • marking and cutting the main part;
  • covering the board;
  • installation in a storage location.

Marking and cutting

On a sheet of plywood, furniture panel or chipboard outline the contours of the future board. The standard product is about 40 cm wide, 120-130 cm long, with a gradually tapering rounded edge. If desired, these dimensions can be easily increased or decreased. You can first make a pattern on cardboard or thick paper, and then transfer it to wood. To form a rounded edge, it is recommended to use a compass, and if you don’t have one, use improvised means (saucer, roll of tape, any cylindrical object of suitable diameter).

Then they move on to cutting. Straight cuts are made circular saw, curved - with a jigsaw.

The cut workpiece is treated with sandpaper or grinder. It is necessary to sand not only the cut points, but also both sides of the board. Since the process generates a large amount of dust, this should be done outdoors or near the hood (it is recommended to protect respiratory tract mask or respirator).

Fabric covering

Before starting this procedure, you should attach the rotary loops to the straight edge of the board at both ends.

First, the workpiece is tightened thick fabric. You can use a towel, wool blanket, or other resistant high temperatures material.

Lay the fabric face down on a flat surface and place a board on it so that the loops are on top. Wrap the edges of the material onto the workpiece. Fix them so that the fabric is slightly stretched. A construction stapler is used for fastening. Excess fabric around the entire perimeter is cut off with scissors, leaving 5-10 mm for allowances. If in some places the staples do not fully penetrate the wood, hammer them in with a hammer.

In the same way, cover the workpiece with decorative fabric (cotton, linen or other natural and heat-resistant material are suitable).

Installing a board in a closet

Secure the part in a storage location (in a closet or niche suitable size) can be done in different ways.

The simplest and most reliable are two options:

  1. using a folding support;
  2. on bars.

Folding support

To create a leg you will need a sheet of plywood 10 mm thick. The outlines of the future part are marked on it. Its shape can be any simplest option– a rectangle with a height equal to the distance from the floor to the level at which the board will be placed.

Cut out the workpiece using a jigsaw. Processed grinder or sandpaper. If desired, the leg can be painted or varnished.

The finished leg is attached to the board using hinges. This way the product will simply fold back and be easily put back into the closet.

Bruschi

For the second option, you will need 2 bars of 40*70 mm, 15-20 cm long. Their cuts will serve as a support, so they must be straight and even.

In the bars on the 40 mm side, using a drill, drill 2 through holes for fasteners. Having smeared this side with wood glue, apply it to the board, use a screwdriver to screw the bars with screws of suitable length and size.

To determine the optimal position of the bars, you need to temporarily connect the loops on the board with wooden slats. After this, place both bars on a section of the straight edge of the board that is free from loops so that they rest against the batten. In this position they will reliably hold the structure in weight.

The final step is to secure the product in the cabinet. Having chosen a storage location and determined the level at which the board will be located, fix it using the previously installed hinges and screws.

It’s easy to make a built-in ironing board using the instructions. To make it you need simple materials, and all the work can be done independently.

Currently, the so-called handmade is gaining more and more popularity. And this is not just a tribute to fashion (by type - it’s trendy now). This is also a significant saving on the family budget and the opportunity to create an exclusive item for yourself or your loved ones with your own hands.

To make an ironing board ourselves, we will need the following materials:

  1. Chipboard 18 mm, color can be chosen at your discretion. Size 1250*350 mm.
  2. Bars – 35*40 mm – 3 pcs. Length - 1100 mm.
  3. Bars – 35*40 mm -2 pcs. Length – 300 mm.

Tip: Do not choose plywood as a material for the ironing board, since ironing involves a temperature difference, and this material can change its shape.

The tools we need:

  1. Electric stapler;
  2. Fraser;
  3. Drills 25 mm and 8 mm for working with wood;
  4. Drill;
  5. Screws;
  6. Bolts + washers;
  7. For covering the top: fabric.

So, let's get to work:

It is necessary to make one edge of the ironing board radius using a router.

Drill 8 mm holes for the bars. It is necessary to move away from the middle of the block to the edge by about 30 mm. The edges should contain intermediate distances of approximately 570 mm and 515 mm.

Make two holes for the bolt heads using a 25 mm drill bit. It is very important to make a hole in the ironing board. However, only on one side, and the dimensions of the wooden blocks are required to be of suitable length.

The next stage is drilling through hole for bolts on several small bars, about 300 mm long. The hole for the bolt is no more than 8 mm. A prerequisite for this stage is a distance of about 30 mm from the edges of the chipboard before the holes are brightened. In this case, it is imperative to make a countersunk hole under the bolt heads.

Let's move on to the next stage of creating the ironing board. It is necessary to make an indent from the edge of the chipboard - about 20 mm in length. Make a through drilling with a diameter of 8 mm for the legs of the ironing board. At the same time, do not forget to make holes for bolts and screws. Next, you need to make the edges of the legs (those adjacent to the top of the board) more rounded. Then attach them with small blocks using bolts. This stage of creating the ironing board is completed - the supporting elements for the board have appeared.

We are moving to another stage of creation – and quite an important one at that. It is necessary to place the fastened base for the ironing board relative to the boundary that serves as the axial one. In this case, you must remember to indent. When creating a specific ironing board, the indentation is no more than 171 mm from the edge of the chipboard. Next, you can fasten the base to the top using screws.

It is necessary to install structures for support to the legs. These supports also act as stiffeners.

In the next step, it is necessary to adjust the height of the future ironing board. You need to set the height so that it is convenient for everyone to iron behind it. The height is adjusted using the support recess. A milling cutter is used for this.

Then you need to install a lock on the leg located in the middle. It is also necessary to adjust so that the board is positioned strictly horizontally, without any tilting. The height of the finished board should be within 800 mm.

It is necessary to cover the upper part of the board with upholstery. The fabric used should have parameters - about 151 * 401 mm with small indentations along the edges, as spare ones. Place synthetic fabric under the bottom of the fabric. Next, the fabric base is turned over and nailed from below with an electric stapler to the chipboard. Fastening must be done starting from the side parts. If any edges are redundant, they are carefully cut off with scissors.

After all stages of production, the ironing board is ready for use. In this case, you get an ironing board made by yourself. You can always add your own design to the design and the manufacturing technology can be changed to suit you. This option can serve as your basis. At the same time, you save on your purchase.

Do you have a small apartment and no place to hide a huge ironing board? Not even large table to quickly iron your favorite item? Don't despair! Ironing accessories do not have to be oversized. We propose to create a convenient and compact ironing surface that can be easily installed, for example, on a washing machine and just as easily rolled up for cleaning in a closet. Intrigued? Still...

After all, the proposed solution has little secret– these are almost invisible magnets that will tightly fix the ironing “helper” to the surface washing machine, which will make it possible to quickly iron the right thing. Simply put, it is a mat with magnets measuring approximately 45 by 95 cm.

So, to create such an indispensable item for the household, prepare:

  • 45 cm of fabric for the front side (width 90-100 cm);
  • 45 cm piece of fabric for the wrong side (width 90-100 cm);
  • 45 cm padding polyester (width 90-100 cm);
  • additional thin fabric for magnets (if possible, the same as for the back)
  • magnets

Also get it sewing machine, scissors, threads, needles, pins, measuring tape– basic sewing kit.

Master class “How to sew a replacement ironing board”

Step one. It is most convenient to sew magnets onto a separate strip. Hand sew each magnet.

Step two. Baste the strip with magnets to the cut for the wrong side. Sew the second one on the other edge. It turns out that only the edges will be fixed with magnets.

Step three. Place the front and back pieces face to face (the magnets should be inside the mat).

Step four. Add the padding polyester blank, connect the cuts and corners and secure with pins.

Step five. Sew along the edge, leaving 1 cm from the edge and leaving holes for turning.
