How to properly dismantle the split system yourself. How to dismantle a split system with your own hands: features and work procedure

For what reasons is the air conditioner removed and how to remove the air conditioner from the wall? There can be many reasons for dismantling an air conditioner. These reasons include:

  • renovation work planned for the premises;
  • changing the air conditioner to a newer model;
  • breakdown of the air conditioner and its replacement with a new device;
  • removal of the device for the summer period.

Removal of oversized equipment

Removing the air conditioner from the wall with your own hands is not so difficult. Moreover, this will save money on the costs of service center specialists. To disassemble the structure yourself, you need to find out all the nuances of the operation and the sequence of actions. It is important to consider that each equipment model has its own characteristics, so the sequence of actions may be slightly different.

To turn off floor, in-line or wall view no effort required. To turn it off, it is necessary to close the supply of working fluid, turn on the air conditioner and drain the working fluid from the equipment, which can damage the furniture of the apartment. After all the liquid has been drained, you need to turn off the equipment from the mains and turn off the drain. Then you need to carefully, with leisurely movements, remove the device from the wall mount (this applies to ceiling and wall products that are hung on the wall and secured with a special mount). Now we remove the tubes supplying liquid to the device, and finally remove and remove the air conditioner from the wall.

The most difficult actions for removing split systems

To remove the split system from the wall, you need to select a suitable set of tools and keys suitable size. As a rule, some of the keys for installing and dismantling the air conditioner are included in the equipment package. The most important thing is to find a set of hex keys, without which it will be difficult to unscrew the protective screws that keep the pipes in motion. The pipes are necessary for supplying the working fluid of the equipment.

Then you need to unscrew the pipes (the main thing to know is that in a system of this type it is impossible to pump the equipment idly, so you should prepare a container in advance for draining the working fluid). First of all, you need to remove the thin pipe that allows coolant to pass through (it is called refrigerant), then you need to turn on the device and wait a certain time until warm air comes out of the air conditioner. After this, unscrew the thickest pipe and completely turn off the air conditioner.

The copper pipes of most models are not removable; you can use metal cutters to cut them off from the equipment. The cut ends of the pipes must be compressed. Now there is very little left to do: completely disconnect the electrical circuit of the device, remove the equipment from its mounting location, and then disconnect outdoor unit air conditioner

The monoblock system is removed in almost the same way. The only exception to dismantling is that there is a completely different electrical diagram, and the pipes containing the working fluid are very different.

If you are afraid to remove the device and turn off some equipment, you can use the user instructions that come with the equipment or seek help from people involved in dismantling the air conditioning system. In the instructions, you can find out in detail information on how to disconnect the drainage and other mechanisms of the product.

Before proceeding with dismantling, we recommend that you make sure that you have all the necessary tools.

Cassette devices

Cassette air conditioners are the most difficult, so removing an air conditioner from a wall of this type requires a separate approach. Let's consider dismantling the device in stages:

The most detailed information about disabling the cassette device can be found in the user manual that comes with the air conditioning system.

To remove the bracket yourself, you need to read literature on repair, installation and dismantling of air conditioning equipment or consult with experienced people from the service center. If you are afraid to carry out the work of removing the air conditioner, in this case it is better to contact the staff at the service center and call professionals in their field.

Duct type of air conditioners

There is another type of air conditioning equipment - duct devices, which are even more difficult to dismantle. The thing is that the design of this device is quite heavy and massive, since its system consists of numerous branched air ducts. These mechanisms must also be dismantled.

In equipment of this type, first of all, it is necessary to disassemble the air ducts and only after that it will be possible to begin removing the air conditioner. Removal of the air duct must begin with the grille of their exit into the room, gradually moving from there to the connection connector.

Having turned off all the pipes that serve for air intake and outlet, you need to turn off the equipment itself. The most important thing when shooting channel device, like any other air conditioning equipment, turn off the pipes in time and drain the working fluid in a timely manner so that freon does not leak. After disconnecting the pipes, the system should run in a little (just a few minutes is enough), and after that you should completely turn off the device and remove the electrical circuit.

The next step is to disconnect the shut-off valves from the air conditioner and remove these parts. Now you can start dismantling external unit. To remove it, it is recommended to contact a specialist. The fact is that, firstly, you may not have the appropriate tools, and secondly, they have experience working at high altitudes and can easily cope with their task.

When removing the device, do not forget that during installation the equipment was fastened well and in good quality, configured and intended for a long service life, so during dismantling it must be depressurized. During this procedure, it is necessary to ensure that freon does not come into contact with human skin. The fact is that it can cause frostbite.

As follows from the article written above, dismantling air conditioning equipment is not so difficult work, but still in some cases requires the intervention of professionals. All that can affect the complexity of the removable process is the model of equipment and the method of its installation.

The article on how to remove an air conditioner from a wall is intended for people who like to do all the housework themselves. I would like to hope that the information will be useful and will help you cope with this task without the need to contact specialists. Before starting the dismantling process, it is important to carefully study all the information and consider each step step by step. This will help avoid erroneous actions and possible injury. Of course, if you are confident that you can handle the job and remove the device with my own hands, we advise you to familiarize yourself with the safety measures and take action.

Still, if you doubt whether you can complete the task yourself, it is better to contact professionals and pay for their services to dismantle the air conditioner. Moreover, you may not have the necessary tools for the job and will have to spend time searching for or purchasing the missing keys.

Removing an air conditioner is most often necessary when changing housing or making repairs, and our company will perform this range of services quickly and fairly accurately without damaging the air conditioning device itself. In order to properly dismantle the air conditioner, our specialists first pump freon into the external units. This process means turning on the climate control equipment in cooling mode forcibly. Then a special valve is unscrewed in a certain sequence and freon is driven into the air conditioning compressor. As soon as the installer sees that the freon from this equipment has been completely pumped out, the compressor is de-energized and the team can begin work on dismantling each unit. It is necessary to emphasize that if you live on the top floor of a high-rise building, you will need to call an industrial climber to dismantle the external unit. The cost of dismantling the air conditioner will depend on the power of the device and accessibility to the external unit. Our company is pleased to offer high-quality services at an affordable price and a dismantling guarantee.

The main problem when removing an air conditioner is the preservation of freon. Today I will tell you in detail how craftsmen solve this problem, and how it is possible to do this without special skills and tools. In addition to this main task, I will tell you at least 10 important points during dismantling. Welcome to my website! We're starting!

When you buy a new air conditioner, there is a . Closed service valves on the outdoor unit keep gas inside its parts. The indoor unit contains simple air. During installation, these two blocks are hermetically connected by tubes, only after this the taps are opened and freon enters the indoor unit. It is formed through which freon circulates!

When you need to store freon, "pumping" it back to the external unit is the main option. All you need to do is close the taps when the freon is in the external unit. But let’s look further at how to achieve this.

Methods for dismantling a split system while saving freon

  • traditional way . The principle is that during the operation of the “split”, the tap at the outlet of the external block is first closed (at this time freon is “injected” into the external block). After a few seconds, the second tap is turned off, and the “split” is turned off (all the freon ends up in the outdoor unit). It is advisable to involve an assistant to turn off the air conditioner.

Subsequence:

  1. We unscrew the “plugs” on the taps. We connect pressure gauges. ATTENTION! When they are connected, freon will come out under pressure! Be careful not to get burned and use gloves.

  1. . Set the lowest temperature.

  1. Using a hex wrench, close the tap of the thin tube. We tighten the nut clockwise until it stops with a little force (the pressure on the pressure gauge decreases).

  1. After 10-20 seconds (when the pressure has dropped to zero), close the tap of the thick tube. And after that, immediately turn off the air conditioner.

  • second way if there are no pressure gauges! The sequence is the same as in the previous version, but we skip the first point. And at the fourth point we wait “blindly” for about 15 seconds. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS METHOD IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE (you can “kill” the compressor);
  • exists third way(not entirely correct) if there is no other choice. For example, when negative temperatures on the street (when the air conditioner cannot be started), or there is no way to wait for the technician (emergency cases), or other difficulties. Under such circumstances, we simply close two taps on the external unit (without turning on the air conditioner). And the remaining freon from the tubes and the indoor unit is “bleeded” when the nuts are further unscrewed. In this case, most of the freon can be saved (especially at subzero temperatures, when the bulk of the gas condenses in the external unit).

With further connection, you MAY not need it. If the air conditioner uses 22 freon, then you can simply add a little (without refilling).

10 important nuances when dismantling an air conditioner

A competent dismantling technician can do the following:

Best advice For the user, this means entrusting the dismantling to specialists who will subsequently install it. When one person removed it, the second promised to mount the blocks, and the third ultimately installed them, then responsibility for the functionality of the device will pass to you. In addition, not everyone will undertake to install an air conditioner that was removed by another technician (and even in a “handicraft” way). The problem of freon preservation is often encountered when. If this is your case, then read the article at the link. This article also describes in more detail the traditional method of “pumping” freon to an external unit.

When carrying out repairs in an apartment or private house, difficulties may arise due to the fact that the indoor air conditioner unit is fixed to the wall. In particular, when replacing wallpaper, if you do not remove the air conditioner, you will have to cut the wallpaper and paste it around the air conditioner unit. With this method of replacing wallpaper, it will not be possible to hang the wallpaper perfectly. The junction of the wallpaper will not look neat and the places where the wallpaper is cut may be visible. In order to perfectly apply new wallpaper, the air conditioning unit will have to be removed.

You can remove the unit by calling an air conditioning specialist. But you will have to pay to call a specialist, and after replacing the wallpaper, you need to call a specialist again and pay. But, for a true master, there is a way out. The air conditioner unit is easy to remove yourself.

Internal units of air conditioners are installed on the walls, indoors and connected by tubes to the external unit of the air conditioner. If you disconnect the air conditioner pipes, freon gas will leave the air conditioning system and then you cannot do without calling a specialist. But to replace the wallpaper, you do not need to completely remove the indoor unit of the air conditioner. It is enough to remove the block from the wall and take it to the side together with the pipes. After this, change the wallpaper on the wall and attach the block back to the wall.

Before removing the block, first prepare the surface not occupied by the block for replacing the wallpaper. Think about how you can secure the removed block. Under no circumstances should the indoor unit be left hanging on the tubes, as they may become damaged and then the air conditioner will have to be repaired with the help of specialists. The unit can be suspended from the ceiling, or it can be installed on a high stepladder or rack.

The indoor unit of the air conditioner is secured to the wall using a mounting strip. In order to remove it from the wall, you need to move the block up until the grooves come out of the mounting strip. Be careful and do not use too much force, as the grooves on the block are plastic and may break. After separating the block from the mounting plate, you need to carefully move the block to the side to the required distance. Next, the air conditioner unit needs to be secured. If you place the block on a stepladder or rack, then ensure that it is secured in the retracted state. You can temporarily fix the block using masking or reinforced tape.

Do not use tape as it will leave marks on the air conditioner unit that will be difficult to remove. The last stage You need to remove the metal mounting strip of the air conditioner. When removing the mounting strip, sketch at what distance the strip was installed from the ceiling and the nearest wall, so that after replacing the wallpaper, install the strip back in the same place.

After pasting the wallpaper, you must wait until the wallpaper is completely dry, otherwise it can be damaged when installing the air conditioner.

Installation of the air conditioner is carried out in reverse order. Fixed first mounting plate, after which the air conditioner unit is hung.

As you can see, removing the internal unit of the air conditioner is a fairly simple procedure that any technician can handle.

Dismantling a split system consisting of an indoor and outdoor unit is much more difficult than a monoblock window air conditioner. The main problem is in the distributed refrigerant circulation circuit, which will have to be depressurized. Let's talk in detail about how to remove the split system and keep it working.

In what cases can you dismantle it yourself?

There are several mandatory conditions under which it makes sense to dismantle the split system yourself:

  1. The location of the external unit allows you to disconnect pipes and cables, dismantle the unit itself and the mounting structure without the use of industrial climbing equipment or special equipment.
  2. There is a pressure gauge or pressure gauge station (collector) available (your own or rented) to work with exactly the type of freon that is pumped into the system.
  3. An assistant is required to dismantle the rather heavy external and internal units, as well as to safely turn off the compressor.

Why is it important to save freon?

If the air conditioner has exhausted its service life, it can be dismantled without saving freon. Of course, according to scientists, this method will cause some damage environment, but it will be completely insignificant (even in comparison with improper disposal of a fluorescent lamp).

Carrying out dismantling without saving the freon of the “working” external unit of a split system is technically simpler, but after this the air conditioner will have to be thrown away. And the reason for this will be an almost guaranteed failure vacuum pump compressor.

The tightness of the pump chambers during operation is ensured not by gaskets or piston rings (they simply cannot withstand a significant difference in temperature and pressure), but high accuracy processing and perfect balance of parts. The slightest scratch on the surface of the chamber from dust or ice from frozen water vapor, which will probably get into the pump along with atmospheric air, will lead to loss of functionality of this main compressor unit after the secondary connection and injection of freon.

Dismantling the external unit

There are two fittings on the external block to which tubes fit: a thin one for liquid freon from the condenser and a thick one for gaseous freon from the evaporator from the indoor unit.

Both fittings have shut-off valves closed with threaded caps. The valves are adjusted by socket heads wrenches. A nipple extends from the gas fitting, also covered with a cap.

Before starting work, all covers must be removed.

A pressure gauge is connected to the nipple and the air conditioner is turned on in “cold” mode.

After 10 minutes, when the air conditioner enters the specified operating mode, the liquid fitting valve is tightened, thereby turning off the freon supply from the condenser of the external unit.

Then remove the pressure gauge and screw all three caps onto the fittings.

At this time, all the freon is collected in the condenser of the external unit, and in the rest of the system (evaporator and tubes) there is a technical vacuum.

Now you need to disconnect the external unit from the pipelines. There are two options:

  1. Unscrew the union nuts securing the flared tubes to the flanges of the fittings. Close the entrances to the fittings with pre-prepared caps with the same diameter and thread pitch as the nuts. But if there are no lids, then they take the second, more radical, route.
  2. Using side cutters, cut (one by one) the tubes 10-15 cm from the fittings. Bend the cut end from the side of the fitting and clamp it tightly with a bench vise. The same procedure is done with the “reciprocal part”. This method is considered more reliable, as it reduces the risk of dust getting into the fitting itself when disconnecting the tube.

All that remains is to disconnect the cables (power and signal) from the external unit, unscrew the fastening of the unit to the mounting structure, and remove the unit.

Features of the location and connection of indoor units

Indoor units of split systems have different options placement and fastening.

In principle, most types of blocks (except channel) have a similar dismantling algorithm:

  • remove the cover;
  • disconnect cables;
  • disconnect the pipes of the refrigerant circulation system (the same two options as for the external unit);
  • trimmed drainage pipe;
  • empty drainage tank;
  • open the latches securing the indoor unit to the mounting plate (each type and brand has its own system);
  • remove the block;
  • dismantle the plate.

The most difficult dismantling duct air conditioner. And it’s not so much difficult to remove the indoor unit, although you still need to get to it, but to dismantle the system of air ducts, adapters, diffusers and grilles.
