How to make partitions for a cardboard box. Original ideas for storing things in a chest of drawers

Every housewife is familiar with the situation when, when opening a drawer with laundry, they find not neatly aligned piles of things, but complete chaos. This happens because of the delicate material from which underwear, socks and tights are made. The finest lace and the most delicate nylon do not hold their shape and flow not only over the body, but also over the chest of drawers, creating a mess there. Again and again you have to rearrange things, restoring order. A DIY laundry organizer can solve this problem.

This practical and elegant storage unit is like a genie that will keep all your things strictly in their places and not get mixed up.

Linen house made of cardboard

You can buy a ready-made laundry organizer in a store, but it’s much nicer and more creative to make one on our own. In addition, this is a less expensive way to obtain a case.

Boxes for storing linen can be textile or cardboard. This is an individual preference of each individual person.

A simple master class on making an organizer for underwear from cardboard will inspire you to create this storage unit.

To create the product we will need any boxes. It could be shoe packaging, household appliances or toys.

The size of the future linen chest depends on the place where it will be located. Based on this, we choose a suitable box or glue it ourselves.

Also for work you will need:

  1. Paper for decorating the box: old wallpaper, newspapers, pages of a music book, sheets from glossy magazines, colored paper;
  2. Long ruler. It is more convenient to use than a short-length tool;
  3. Brush and PVA glue;
  4. Stapler with staples;
  5. Simple pencil;
  6. A utility knife or sharp scissors.

Let's start tinkering. First, let's think about how many things will be stored in this box. The number of cells into which we will divide the organizer depends on this.

Based on the size of the cabinet where the linen chest will be stored, we determine the height of the box. Measure out what you need and trim off the excess with scissors.

Don't throw away the rest of the box. They are useful for making partitions. The lid will also serve this purpose. Optimal size cells - 7x7 cm or 8x8 cm. Guided by these data, we mark the box and cut out blanks for the walls.

We decorate the details at our discretion. A box covered with old newspaper clippings or sheets of music will look impressive. For a classic, simple design, you can choose plain wallpaper.

The inside of the box itself is glued to match the partitions. It is better to choose wear-resistant paper for decoration. A bright and contrasting design with several colors and paper textures will look interesting and unusual. It is better to start work from the sides and finish with the bottom.

We decorate the outer side of the organizer with scrap paper, fabric or thick packaging material. Small allowances and folds made from paper of a different quality and color look beautiful.

We assemble a grid from blanks for cells. To do this, we make cuts on the parts to the middle of the height and connect them as shown in the photo.

We insert the grille into the box and secure it with a stapler or glue. The product is ready!

The video will help answer the questions that arise when making a linen organizer with your own hands.

Ribbon organizer

If for some reason the storage for stockings and tights made from boxes turns out to be short-lived, you can make a more practical design– an organizer made of fabric.

The advantages of this product are that it is durable, takes up minimal space in the closet, is mobile and fits on any shelf.

To work, you need a strong, bright fabric for the base; lower density fabric of a different color for partitions; padding polyester; decorative edging.

Let's move on to step-by-step instructions. Cut out two rectangles. One is made of padding polyester, and the second is made of fabric for the base. Their dimensions should be smaller than the area of the box so that the future box does not wrinkle. Sew on the long storage partitions. To do this, rectangles of contrasting material are sewn onto the base. They are the same in length as the base, and twice as wide as the walls of the box. We sew the blanks in the middle, folding them so that the seam is on the inside. You will get a double partition.

Let's draw the wall based on the number of cells needed.

Sew the rectangles, indenting from the edge by 1.5 cm.

We sew transverse partitions from fabric folded in half. Turn out, iron.

We sew small pieces together.

We sew the sides for the future organizer and attach them to the product.

We decorate the top and ends of the finished box with braid.

The finished organizer can be used for its intended purpose.

What do you need to know about a linen organizer?

A traditional organizer for laundry or other small items is a large rectangular or square container with several compartments made for specific items. Most often it is made of fabric, but has a rigid frame. If the organizer is inserted into a chest of drawers and is reliably protected from dust, it is made open. If it has to stand on a shelf, it is recommended to make an additional cover, especially when the organizer is made for clothes. As a way to store underwear, the organizer can be universal, or you can build several options, each of which will be intended for a separate category: for bras, for stockings and tights, for night combinations, etc.

Regardless of what you do - whether you make a universal option, or decide on several separate ones, it is recommended to choose a non-staining and easy-to-clean fabric. As already mentioned, such a product must have a rigid frame, and at home it most often becomes cardboard. And when it gets wet, it usually becomes deformed, as a result of which contact with moisture is prohibited for the organizer. If you want to have an organizer in light colors, and it still risks requiring cleaning at least 2 times a year, you can try making an outer frame of plastic, and simply separating the zones with a well-stretched cloth. In this case, you can walk along the walls with a damp cloth with a cleaning agent and not be afraid for the safety of the internal material.

A cardboard organizer is the easiest to build: you will need a large box, the dimensions of which are consistent with the dimensions of the box in which the organizer will subsequently stand. If an open shelf becomes its place, also consider how convenient it will be to place it there. Additionally, you will need thick cardboard for dividers, finishing fabric, threads, scissors, soap, glue and a needle. At the starting stage, the frame of the future organizer is assembled: the internal width and length are measured in the box, after which these figures are transferred to thick sheets of cardboard, where the partitions are drawn . For a universal type organizer, all compartments can be made the same size; for an organizer for bras, you can not cross them, and simply divide the entire space into several long zones. On the strips of dividers for the universal organizer, slots must be drawn that will allow them to be fixed to each other. The width of these slits corresponds to the thickness of the cardboard in which they are cut, and the height corresponds to half the total height of the dividers. For the bra organizer, you don’t need to draw them.

  • Now you can start designing and assembling parts. First, you should finish with the dividers: rectangles are cut out of the fabric, the height equal to the height of the dividers multiplied by 2, and the length completely corresponding to the length of the dividers with an allowance of 2-3 mm, which will cover the ends. PVA glue is carefully applied to the cardboard on each side and covered with fabric. The fold should be on the side that will be the front side after collection: i.e. look up from the organizer. The parts are given 1-2 hours to dry, then the same slits are repeated on the fabric, and the separators are put on top of each other. The last to be glued are the ends, which are also sealed with fabric left for allowances.
  • Next you should start sewing the cover: You can make a removable version that will be washed occasionally, which is important for light fabrics, or a non-removable one. The latter is much less work, it is done in almost the same way as decorating the dividers - using glue. Simply apply to external and inside cardboard box with PVA glue, drawing out thin paths with it, put fabric on top and carefully iron it, eliminating air bubbles. It is advisable to place the “seams” inside, since on the outside at the bottom they will interfere with the stability of the organizer. When the glue dries, dividers are placed inside, and the underwear organizer is ready.
  • If you want a removable cover, then a pattern is marked on the fabric, which is an unfolded box. That is, the central rectangle of its bottom and the rectangles of the walls extending from it. At each “wall” an allowance of 0.5 cm must be made on the side, along which they will be sewn, as well as on top - for further connection with internal part cover. It is recommended to process the edges of the fabric with an overlock or zigzag stitch on a machine before proceeding to basting the parts and passing the final seam along them. The outer cover should be a soft mock-up of a cardboard frame. The inner one is sewn in the same way, but the height of its “walls” on the pattern is slightly smaller, exactly the difference in the thickness of the bottom of the box. In addition, there is no need to make allowances on top of the “walls” - only on the sides, in order, again, to sew all the parts together, forming an inner soft box.
  • To connect the outer and inner covers, you will need Velcro: they are sewn onto the saved allowances on top of the outer cover and to the corresponding areas near the walls of the inner cover. After that, all that remains is to put the fabric on the body of the organizer and secure the covers with Velcro to each other. Inside the box there are already prepared dividers, and the underwear organizer is ready. If desired, you can further decorate it with ribbons, lace or beads.

Underwear can be stored not only in a drawer with compartments, but also in a softer and easier to carry organizer in the form of a suitcase. True, here it is much easier to work with a kind of “semi-finished product”, since sewing such a product is difficult. But if you have a few spare hours, as well as good, thick fabric that will keep its shape, you can implement this idea.

To build a small mobile organizer for underwear, ideal for travel, when you select several favorite and especially frequently used sets from the entire collection, you will need non-staining and dense fabric, the sizes of which you choose yourself after studying the pattern of the future organizer. There will be only 4 parts, of which 3 are represented by simple rectangles, and the 4th has more complex shape. You will also need a zipper or a strip of Velcro, a needle, thread, soap and scissors.

The pattern is transferred to the fabric, a small (5-7 mm) seam allowance is added to the details around the entire perimeter, and they are basted, forming a classic suitcase bag with a lid. If the fabric is not dense enough and the shape is vertical position is lost, professionals advise making a double product: draw and cut out 2 patterns, but make the second one only for the bottom of the organizer, without touching the lid. This will make the walls thicker and give rigidity to the frame.

Next you need to cut out fabric rectangles, 2 of which will become dividers to get 3 compartments for bras, and 1 will serve to create a department for soft parts underwear. The last section will be located in the lid of the organizer: a rectangle with hemmed edges is simply sewn along the perimeter, keeping the 4th side open. Then another 2-3 seams are placed across it, so that instead of 1 large pocket you get 3-4 smaller elongated ones. The remaining 2 overcast fabric rectangles are inserted into the lower part of the organizer, stretched between opposite walls and in this position sewn on the sides. There is no need to sew dividers to the bottom. At the final stage, you only need to sew a zipper or adhesive tape between the main area and the lid, make a handle on the lid if necessary, and decorate the resulting product.
