DIY boat made of iron barrels. DIY fishing boat from a barrel

Hunting and fishing are a favorite pastime of many men. Sitting with a fishing rod early in the morning in the reeds is a special romance for a fisherman.

Vehicles for fishing, and just for walking, are used in different ways - rubber, aluminum, boats made of PVC and even plywood.

You can buy absolutely any watercraft, if only you had the money, but how can you make a boat with your own hands? We'll tell you in our article.

Plywood boat

A homemade plywood boat is very light, easy to use and much cheaper than in a store.

The most important preparatory moment in construction are boat drawings. Having accurate calculations, in the future you will not have to waste time and effort on remaking and adjusting the product.

Calculations

We offer you one of the payment options. By transferring the drawings to paper, we will receive templates for all the necessary parts of the boat in life size. Now we can “cut out” our product and cut out the blanks with a jigsaw. Once you have all the cut out parts, you can start gluing.

First of all, we connect the load-bearing structural elements, the transom (cut of the aft part) and the frames (transverse rib of the hull). Then the bottom and sides are attached to the transom, as in the photo of the boat.

To connect all parts, use epoxy resin and fiberglass tape. These materials will not only connect all parts of the structure, but will also create a waterproof seam.

Assembling the boat

Having secured the plywood to the side structures, you can proceed to strengthening the angles between the sides and the bottom. They do this with wooden corners, then proceed to sealing the seams.

To obtain suture material, epoxy resin and Aerosil are mixed in equal proportions. Next, the seams are not just lubricated, but filled with this composition.

Once the entire structure has dried, you can attach the seats. If the boat has a motor, we attach the transom and bow cover.

The outer part of the boat also needs processing; it is necessary to glue all the external seams, also using resin and fiberglass tape, and sand the surface after drying. Then prime and paint.

Repairing damage to a PVC inflatable boat

If you already have inflatable boat and you actively use it, then moments of leakage probably often occur due to a puncture or cut in the material of the vehicle. Restoring a PVC boat is not at all difficult; it is easy to do in spartan conditions and even on the water.

Of course, to get a better result, you need to have time and do better repairs in a workshop. When fixing a leak, the glue dries, ideally, for 3 days, although there is nothing to worry about if you use the boat within a day.

If the boat was repaired on the water, upon return it is necessary to redo everything, since a hastily glued patch and without proper technology will not last long.

If a puncture occurs while fishing or hunting, use only the repair kit included with the boat.

Boat overhaul

For overhaul boats you need:

  • Repair kit (included with the boat);
  • Scissors;
  • Roller;
  • Pencil;
  • Solvent promoting degreasing;
  • Brush for adhesive.

Cut out a rounded patch from spare fabric. It should be 4-5 cm larger than the cut.

Note!

Spread the area to be repaired on a flat surface, clean it from dirt and degrease it with a solvent. Place the patch over the hole and trace with a pencil, coat both surfaces with PVC glue and let dry.

After 15-20 minutes, repeat the procedure and again give time to dry. After 5 minutes, the restoration itself can begin. Touch the surface of the patch with your finger; it should stick slightly.

Then, to activate the adhesive surface, you need to heat the patch itself and the puncture site; a hairdryer is ideal for this, just act quickly so that the glue does not dry out.

Now you can apply the surfaces to each other with the adhesive side, and carefully expel all the air, iron the patch with a roller. Then leave it to dry for at least one day.

In conclusion of our article, we can say that it is not necessary to spend a lot on buying or repairing a boat. With some effort, you can enjoy what you love.

DIY boat photo

Note!

My first boat ever built. My brother and I built a boat in 2010 for children and to explore small pond. Construction took 1 hour. We have gained some experience in building a simple structure that requires basic tools and materials to create. The boat can be built for free or at minimal cost.

Note: The author is not responsible for any harm or injury in the creation and use of this means of transportation on water. For a more stable structure, attach plastic bottles to the ends of the frame for stability.

Materials:

  1. The boards are the same length;
  2. Self-tapping screws;
  3. Plastic barrel with a capacity of 60 liters;
  4. Counterweight.

Tools:

  1. Drill and drill bits;
  2. Plastic blades;
  3. Ruler;
  4. Roulette\Meter

Cut out the side hole of the barrel.

Firstly, if your barrel has holes, in my case these are the lids, in which case they need to be sealed. I don't have any actual photos, but I do have a Google SketchUp Model. Trace the bottom of the barrel as shown by the hole based on your size. Cut a hole large enough to enter and exit the barrel, but no further than half the length of the barrel. Drill a hole in the middle of your barrel to begin sawing the hole. if you have sharp corners, you need to smooth them with sandpaper.

Build a square.

Place the boards next to each other as shown to form a 4x4 square. Secure the boards with 2 or 3 screws at each corner.

We nail 2 boards for space under our barrel.

Knock down 2 boards as in the photo. Between these planks we place our barrel. We secure the barrel to the current raft using tape or something else. You need to fasten the barrel and the skeleton of the raft from boards at the beginning and at the end.

In this article you can see a video on how to make a homemade boat from a barrel with your own hands.

The video uses a 200 liter plastic barrel for technical needs.

This, of course, is not a homemade PVC boat, but it will do for fishing.

It often happens that a plastic barrel purchased for water leaks. It can no longer be used for its intended purpose, but with some imagination and a little straight hands you can make a full-fledged homemade fishing boat from an old plastic barrel.

To make a fishing boat with your own hands, you will need an unnecessary plastic barrel, plastic pipes for sewerage or electrical wiring, and the desire to make a homemade fishing boat.

Look at the video below, it shows such a homemade boat being tested.

As you can see, despite its very strange shape, it is quite possible to sail on such a homemade vessel on a lake or calm river.

At first glance it may seem that a barrel boat is very unstable on the water, but this is not so! Sealed pipes located on the sides give this handmade boat not only additional buoyancy, but also stability.

The design is like this homemade boat refers to trimarans.

Of course, in basic version such a homemade product can only be used to sail a couple of tens of meters from the shore and calmly go fishing. Using a short rod. In this case, you can use a cheap echo sounder to detect fish and control the bottom topography.

If you want to put a motor on such a homemade boat, you will have to modify it.

Look at the video of the second version of a homemade fishing boat from a barrel.

)

As you can see, first of all, the improvements affected the increase in the number of pipes used on the side floats of the homemade trimaran. And the length of the floats has also increased.

Thus, the carrying capacity of the homemade boat increased and its longitudinal stability increased. This is understandable, the use of a motor not only introduces an imbalance when moving, but also increases the weight of the structure itself, because in addition to the electric motor for a homemade boat, it is also necessary to place a battery to power this propulsion unit with electricity.

The price of such a homemade boat is not high. Even a new plastic barrel costs about 1000 rubles, another 250 rubles will need to be purchased plastic pipes. To bend and wrap pipes, you will need a construction hair dryer; you don’t have to buy it, but ask your friends. All seams will need to be sealed with silicone sealant, which will cost another 150-250 rubles.

In total, a homemade fishing boat will cost you only 150 rubles! You will spend no more than one evening on construction, every other day silicone sealant completely polymerizes and you can begin testing.

The advantages of such a homemade fishing boat include its light weight and small dimensions. It can be easily transported on the top trunk of any car, and carried to the water alone.

It will be very difficult to turn over such a homemade trimaran, so you can fish without fear.

By the way, according to Russian laws, any boat equipped with an engine of 5 horsepower or less does not require registration. So - repent water spaces and fish to your health!
