Gate in old style. Wooden gates: beautiful, reliable and affordable (23 photos)

Setting up a secure garage not only ensures the safety of the car, but also prevents intruders from entering the vehicle. Every car owner strives to have his own garage, since in large cities many cars spend the night in the open air, exposed to harmful influences environment and being the object of increased attention from scammers. For owners of country houses and dachas, the task of erecting the said building occupies one of the first positions on the list of priority activities. But the excessively high cost of manufacturing this design in some cases discourages any desire to implement the plan. The use of wood and the manufacture of some structural elements with your own hands will significantly reduce costs when constructing a garage. An integral part of any building of this type is the gate. For their high-quality construction, you need to familiarize yourself with how to make wooden gates yourself without involving the labor of specialists.

The main advantages of this material are:

  • Availability and reasonable price. You can easily buy wood products of the required grade and required sizes at a hardware store or a specialized company. The pricing policy is significantly lower in comparison with metal.
  • Easy to process and install. Without much difficulty, anyone can prepare this material with their own hands. While processing metal products will require the use of expensive equipment: an angle grinder, welding equipment etc.
  • Durability and reliability. With planned regular maintenance, a wooden entrance structure can last for a long time. Compared to metal, a wooden surface is not subject to rust, but requires periodic treatment special compounds. If one of the sides of the canvas is damaged, replacing old boards with new ones can be done in a matter of hours.

Depending on the tastes and preferences of each owner, any type of gate can be made: a sliding type or a version with a lifting device.

The simplest and most universal type are swing gates. The manufacturing technology of this element is intuitive and does not require special construction skills from the master.

The main task is to take into account all the subtleties and important features, as well as carry out high-quality measurements and wood processing.

Before preparing the required material and tools, you should draw up a diagram of the future structure and accurately calculate its location. Having finished with these points, it is worth starting to measure the entrance opening. To increase clarity, it would be useful to use the existing sketch and adjust all the values to your option.

Drawing up a detailed sketch will allow you to better navigate the number of consumables and components. The construction of the structure involves the use and preparation of the following tools and materials:

  • timber or metal profile 50×50 mm;
  • wooden boards having a width of 100 mm and a thickness of 25 mm;
  • metal hanging hinges;
  • hacksaw;
  • roulette;
  • Bulgarian;
  • building level;
  • steel corners;
  • drill with a set of drills and bits;
  • chisel;
  • sandpaper;
  • primer;
  • processing compounds;
  • set of brushes.

When making wooden garage doors, special supports must be prepared in advance. If they are not ready yet, then you will need two wooden beams or logs to make them.

We prepare holes for them with a depth of at least 1.2–1.5 m. When constructing any supporting structure, a simple rule applies: the deeper the pillars are located, the more stable and reliable the gate will be. We cut the workpieces to the required height, taking into account the part of the support that will be in the ground. To increase strength, it would be useful to further strengthen the foundation of future support pillars by filling the bottoms of the recesses with a small amount of crushed stone of the 5×20 fraction and compacting the resulting substrate.

To prevent premature destruction of wooden supports, it is necessary to treat the areas that will be underground with a special water-repellent mastic or resin.

Next, we install the pillars, fix them construction level vertical position and fill the recesses with concrete or cement mixture. In addition, to add greater practicality and aesthetics, you can line the concreted areas with large stones or bricks.

Having completed all the preparatory procedures, we proceed to the manufacture of the structure itself.

We cut it according to the dimensions of the entrance opening. wooden beam to the required values and lay it out on a flat place so that it turns out to be a rectangle or square, depending on the type of gate.

We check the horizontality and verticality of the laid out beams, and then drill holes in corner connections and fasten the structure with screws or dowels. It would be a good idea to further strengthen the corners and center of the frame with steel corners and cross beams, respectively. The ends of the last products are cut at an angle of 45º, placed crosswise and fixed with self-tapping screws.

Metal profile pipes can also be used as the basis for the future frame, but welding equipment will be required for manufacturing.

The next activity is the production and surface treatment of cladding elements. Depending on the selected material and the size of the sashes, we cut the required number of boards. As a rule, pine is used for cladding, since wooden products made from it have a low specific weight and the greatest protection from the harmful effects of environmental factors.

The facing boards are placed close to each other and fixed to the frame with self-tapping screws. Upon completion, all irregularities are trimmed and processed grinder or fine sandpaper.

To increase the tightness of fit to the frame and maintain temperature regime in a garage, the edges of the doors can be lined with insulation.

Having prepared the gate leaves, we proceed to installation metal hinges. In the case of attachment to a frame structure, we weld the hinged parts directly onto the frame, and in the case of attachment to wooden bases - on support pillars. To determine the optimal location, it is necessary to retreat a distance equal to ¼ of the total height of the pillar from the upper and lower boundaries of the support and mark the location. Then fasten the hinges to the posts and hang the sashes.

The gate is almost ready, all that remains is to prime it and cover the surface with antiseptics. Having given the necessary time for drying, we proceed to placing the fittings: handles, locks and bolts. To give a noble appearance, the gate can subsequently be decorated with various forged elements.

They can be L-shaped metal rods located on the doors. For their operation, it is necessary to place two small sections of pipe with a diameter that ensures free movement of the rod in the intended places of entry into the ground, and also to make a platform on each sash for fixing the handle of the fastener in a raised state.

The procedure for erecting wooden gates with your own hands is a simple undertaking and can be implemented by every person. As with any construction work, to achieve all your goals, you must strictly follow the advice of experts, take accurate measurements and use quality material. Compliance with all these points, together with planned periodic maintenance, will ensure reliable operation of the entrance gate for many years.

Forged gate bolt— an example of using a forging element in combination with wood. Antique-style screws and rivets will undoubtedly decorate them. Iron birds on top of the opening doors are an original design solution. The more lace curls and floral forged ornaments on the gate, the richer their design. You can also combine wood carvings and metal patterns. The main thing here is to maintain a sense of proportion and style.

Decorative and practical elements: overlays, vines, rivets, corners and others

Often the pattern is located asymmetrically to emphasize massiveness. Forged vine or rose petals give them exquisite beauty. And if forged patterns are combined with wood carving, then this is the pinnacle of artistic skill. Forging in combination with wood can often be found in the Baroque style. Many variations various patterns used by craftsmen when making forged elements. They made both by hand and by stamping.

Such structures have parts that also have a practical function. These include, deadbolts,. Gate parts can be forged in the color chosen by the home owner. Country, classicism - whatever your heart desires!

Reference. Customers wondering where to buy forged elements should contact the employees of the companies that are presented in a separate section.

If the gate is wooden, then the owner will need a metal lattice to strengthen it. Such a frame significantly increases strength, and forged curls and lace of various shapes create the necessary strength for the wooden texture.

Antique

Recently, you can often find estates that are fenced with gates made in an “antique” manner. Such designs are examples of ancient blacksmith craft. , massive castles performed in retro style. They look especially beautiful curly loops on a wooden canvas and are perfect for forged gates with a tree. Small decor creates the impression of ancient structures. To preserve the unified “antique” style of the estate, blacksmiths suggest hanging not only gates, but also gates and window shutters on such hinges.

Gate to old style are being manufactured using patination, an original design technique in which a special coating is applied to the metal surface. The craftsman applies powder paint to the metal surface, thereby imitating a touch of antiquity.

This difficult manual work, which requires high professionalism from the blacksmith and compliance with clear rules for performing the technique. Sometimes home owners want to decorate their gates with curly door hinges.

Cold and hot forging

Gates can be manufactured without preheating the metal using the . This technology requires less costs. When heat treating metal, an anvil and a forge are used. Here, the master requires special knowledge and ability to handle it.

Distinguish pre-forging, which prepares the source material for rolling and deformation. What follows forging: upsetting and landing, broaching, spinning on a mandrel, stitching, bending and twisting. By using the product takes its final form. In cold forging, the workpieces are bent and adjusted, assembled into a single composition, and welded. Ready-made elements, as a rule, do not have any special artistic value and can be made independently.

Making gates using the method cold forging carried out by connecting all elements into a single whole. You can create the parts yourself at home. To do this, you will need metal processing machines. It is also important to take into account the factor that when independent work It is possible to create unique parts. You can avoid stamping and standard designs that are typical for factory production.

Where to buy or order

At all times, forged gates, like a fence, provide protection to the owners of a house or estate. The development of modern technologies makes it possible to combine the unique appearance of a forged structure with functionality. The combination of metal and wood gives the gate sophisticated look. The strength and reliability of forged gates means that they will last for many years.

Doors... Perhaps one of the most mysterious inventions of mankind. You never know what is hidden behind them: the door can open the way to unknown beauty or, when closed, destroy dreams forever.

And what is stored behind the ancient doors? Precious treasure or scary mummy? Interesting? In this article we will tell you about the oldest and most unusual doors and gates, as well as interesting facts associated with them.

This door is considered to be the oldest operating door in the world. It has been covering the entrance to the archives of Westminster Abbey (England) since approximately 1040. There was a legend that the tree was lined with human skin, but chemical analysis disproved this eerie theory - the covering turned out to be cow skin.

At the end of the 20th century, doors made at least five thousand years ago were found in Zurich (considered the oldest in the world). The poplar from which they are made is well preserved, and the carving turned out to be so delicate and unusual that for more than 10 years copies of these artifacts have been among the most sought after for interior design in Europe.

The most beautiful are the doors of the baptismal church of St. John (Florence, Italy). They were made in the 15th century and decorated with bronze bas-reliefs and miniatures from biblical and Old Testament scenes of amazingly fine workmanship.

In the 18th-19th centuries, mahogany came into fashion, and Italian craftsmen, successfully combining them with bronze, began to create masterpieces of carpentry that still amaze with their beauty.

By the way, the doors acquired a modern appearance (design using elongated frames with inserted stained glass or glass) only in the 18th century thanks to French craftsmen - the Parisian aristocrats really wanted to show off their wealth: it was for this purpose that large viewing glass inserts on the entrance doors were invented .

Very unusual examples can be seen in Spain, where the “Moorish invasion” had a great influence on the development of culture and crafts. In modern Andalusia, houses are still preserved, in the external decoration of which Arab sensuality and European solidity are intricately intertwined. And since the doors are the “face” of the building, they also bear the echo of these intricacies.

Fancy ornaments reminiscent of thin lace, bright or contrasting colors and a semicircular arch, most often, are characteristics of Oriental or Arabic doors. The owner of the house decorated the entrance with all accessible ways: forged with flowers or bronze tips, painting or firing - it was the door that was originally supposed to tell the guest about the wealth and status of the owner.

It would be strange to ignore the Land of the Rising Sun - its original culture was also evident in the home interior. The doors for rich houses were minimalist and solid and made of wood, which is very expensive in Japan, and the entrance to poorer houses was closed with plywood panels painted with plant motifs.

The master's imagination is limitless and is embodied in the most various materials: wood, stone, metal, glass. Sometimes the thought arises: “If there is such a door in this house, then what is inside?”, isn’t it?

There is another creation of human hands that blocks access to an uninvited guest - a gate. Wooden, iron, and forged, they are designed to protect our home, but skilled craftsmen, in addition to their main function, give these products such bizarre shapes that their beauty and unusualness sometimes take our breath away.

It is believed that the first forged gates with a mechanism were made in Spain. Their author (Antonio Gaudi) was no stranger to mechanics, and he equipped the huge iron dragon, sitting on the frame bars, with a toothy mouth that opened along with the gate doors. Currently, the mechanism is completely out of order, but anyone can admire the magnificent creation in Barcelona, Spain.

In the period from the XV to the XVIII centuries. In Europe, the Baroque style (Italian - “excessively bizarre, strange”) was very popular. All buildings built in those days were densely decorated with statues, stucco, frescoes, coats of arms, etc. This cup and the gate have not passed: there is no free space on the bright examples of ancient splendor - voluntes, coats of arms, acanthuses, crowns almost completely cover the metal frame of the gate.

However, in the 19th century, the graceful lines of the revived “Art Nouveau” and the newborn “Art Nouveau” began to displace the intricate forged lace of the “Baroque”, and the simplicity of the curves and the low cost of the products for a long time put an end to the spread of the ruinous aristocratic style.

The most unusual gate, made of a coral block, was built by the owner of the “Coral Estate” at the beginning of the 20th century in the American state of Florida. An unhappily in love American of Latvian origin built an entire castle for his beloved, but she never reciprocated his feelings.

Human genius was able to come up with a sensor, automation and electric drive, but none modern technology does not carry the main thing: a particle of the soul and warmth of the hands of the Master, who embodies his plan in seemingly ordinary things. And then these objects become real masterpieces, which we told you about in our article.

A gate is an important part of a street wall or fence. They restrict access to the inside of a structure or to a certain area. They perform not only a protective function, but also act as a decorative decoration of the exterior and indicate the status of the owner. When choosing quality construction special attention attention should be paid to its functionality and aesthetic properties. Gates with forged elements look very elegant and expensive.

The disadvantage of forged products is their high cost. But if you want to highlight your area, while saving money, you can try to make simple fences with your own hands, including individual parts of pressure-treated metal. Openwork metal components can complement swing, folding, lifting, and sliding models.

Features of forged gates

Forging has been the main method of processing metals for many millennia. The artistic direction also developed along with it. Its main difference is that finished goods can to a certain extent be called a work of art. The master puts a piece of himself into each item and spends a lot of time on the creation process.

Forged structures have not lost their relevance for many years. Gates and gates are valued and are very expensive. They look attractive. Often made according to individual sketches, characterized by unique design. These fences are versatile. They match any fences. Look great with wooden, brick, stone, and corrugated fences.

Gates are produced using hot or cold forging. In the first case, individual elements are created by heating the alloy in a forge or furnace. Blacksmiths give the iron brought to the required temperature a certain shape. The connection of individual components occurs using welding and rivets. Experienced blacksmiths are able to bring any design to life, forge a family coat of arms or company logo.

When producing structures using the cold method, no heat is used. Bending of a metal workpiece is carried out on machines using special templates. The disadvantage of this method is that the material loses its strength characteristics. Some elements have to be purchased ready-made, for example, leaves, flowers, patterns. However, such production does not require blacksmithing skills.

Hot-processed products are the most expensive and durable. When they are created, the metal is compacted and its quality characteristics are improved. At the same time, even openwork metal curls become very durable.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Gates with forged elements are installed by owners of houses and cottages; they restrict entry into the territory government agencies, private companies and establishments. They have a unique look and can become the highlight of almost any exterior. They can have minimal decor or represent entire compositions, emphasizing a certain landscape design. Among the main advantages of forged fencing are:

  • Presentable appearance. They emphasize the status of the owner of the site.
  • The uniqueness of each model. It is possible to order any design made according to a ready-made design, or draw up a drawing yourself.
  • Durability and wear resistance. Metal treated with anti-corrosion and paints will last a long time.
  • High strength. The product performs an excellent protective function.
  • Easy care. It is enough to periodically wash the painted surface with a damp cloth.
  • Versatility. Artistic forging is combined with different materials and suits different styles.
  • Environmental characteristics. The raw materials used in production are environmentally friendly, they are safe for humans and the environment.

The disadvantages of the design include:

  • High cost. Forged products, especially those produced according to individual drawings, will be very expensive.
  • Long production time. For production complex models it may take weeks, even months.

Varieties

The construction market offers a wide range of wrought iron gates. Making the right choice among the existing variety is very difficult. To choose the most suitable model at the best price, you need to understand the types of products that combine protective and aesthetic functions. There are several main criteria by which all structures can be classified:

  1. According to the method of opening the doors:
  • Swing.
  • Recoil.
  • Lifting.
  1. By control method:
  • Mechanical. Opening is done manually.
  • Automatic. Control is carried out using the remote control.
  1. By type of valves:
  • Open or transparent. The fenced area is clearly visible through them.
  • Closed or deaf. Hide the area from prying eyes. The doors are made from metal sheet, on top of which forging elements are fixed.
  • Combined. The doors remain partially open. The fence turns out to be less massive and looks more attractive.

Recoil

The main feature of sliding gates is their name. They roll to the side along the fence, save space in the yard, and allow the car to approach as close as possible. Opening the doors does not require free space in front of them. However, the products are also limited by the minimum opening-closing zone; they cannot be installed if the length of the fence is not enough.

Forged models are very difficult to manufacture and install. They are heavy, but are characterized by reliability and resistance to wind loads. Sliding products have the following design: frame, internal lining, sliding mechanism. Depending on the type of the last element, rail, cantilever, and suspended options on a support beam are distinguished. Each type has its own individual properties.

Lifting

There are two main types of overhead gates: roller shutters and overhead gates. The first type cannot even include individual forging elements. The second option is a more reliable design. Panel products have a fairly simple structure. They consist of a frame, canvas, guides. The basis of the entire system is a rectangular steel frame welded from profile pipes.

Fences are most often installed in the garage, less often at the entrance to the site. When open, they significantly reduce the height of the opening. Forged models are very rare. This is due to the load placed on the lifting mechanism, which is designed for a certain weight. Therefore, when installing massive structures, only devices on counterweights are used; hinged-lever systems are not suitable.

Massive

The main feature of massive gates is their closed nature. They can be either sliding or swinging. Blind models are made entirely of metal and are quite heavy, so reinforced fittings are used when installing them. Their back wall is sheathed with iron, the front side of the canvas is decorated with a three-dimensional image or decorative ornament made of forged elements.

This is one of the most expensive designs available to wealthy people. It can decorate a luxurious mansion, a presentable cottage, or a commercial facility. The products are classified as elite; they are often installed together with a similarly designed fence. They hide the fenced area from prying eyes and provide maximum protection.

Swing

This is the most common and popular type. The gates have a fairly simple design. They consist of a frame, sheathing, support posts, hinges, bolts and locks. There is a wide variety of these products. There are single-leaf and double-leaf options. The last of the listed models may have different sash lengths. Based on the presence of gates, there are blind gates, as well as fences with a built-in, free-standing door.

Swing gates have the lowest cost compared to other models. They require little maintenance and are characterized by a long service life. When installing them, there is no need to concrete the area adjacent to the fence. The doors open manually and can swing open in different directions, depending on the location of the hinges.

Various raw materials are used in the production of gates. It all depends on their device. Any product includes a frame and decorative forging elements; sheathing material for the doors can also be used. In most cases, profile pipes and angles are used to make the frame, but there are also exclusive models in which all components are completely forged.

Steel sheets, wood, polycarbonate, and corrugated sheets can be used to cover the sashes. The most durable structures are made of thick-walled metal. Forged elements are most often made from ordinary steel; in the case of the cold method, from rolled metal in the form of a circle, strip, or rod. The highest quality and most durable models are made from stainless steel, but they are very expensive.

Fastening of forged components is carried out using spot welding. The welding seam is cleaned with a grinder and a grinding disc. To enlarge service life the surface is treated with anti-corrosion solutions. Afterwards it is primed and covered with a layer of paint. Sometimes two or more colors are used for painting; this coloring allows you to give the structure a more impressive look.

Forged elements, ornaments and decorations for gates

A wide variety of forging elements are used to decorate the fence. With their help, original and unique designs are created. All existing patterns can be divided into three main groups, which display:

  • Geometric shapes. The largest category, which includes many types of components, for example, decorative rolled products in the form of twisted pipes, strips with a pattern.
  • Floral motifs. This is one of the most popular destinations. On sale you can find many ready-made parts that look like leaves, flowers, branches, grapevine. There are entire compositions depicting natural landscapes.
  • Animals. They are less common than the previous option. Most often they are represented by images of birds and animals.

When cold working metal, metal rods are most often used. They are bent, milled, stretched, flattened, forged. Of the most popular components can be distinguished:

  • curls;
  • spirals;
  • rings;
  • heads;
  • paws and peaks;
  • minting;
  • baskets;
  • vine;
  • stripes to add strength.

Style and design

The entrance gate, gate, and fence are a kind of cover for the overall design of the site, the house located on it, and other structures. First of all, all elements of the fence must be combined with each other, and also correspond to the overall design of the fenced area and the existing objects on it. For clarity, let's look at a few of the most popular styles:

  • Renaissance. Wickets and gates must contain ornamentation. The development of the pattern begins from the center. The main element of the design are spiral curls created from rods round section, which intersect with each other. Artistic forging seems weightless.
  • Modern. When creating a composition, smooth lines are used, similar to the bending of plant stems. The ornamental design is based on a pattern of flowers. Animal world represented by swans, eagles, bats.
  • Minimalism. The products have a strict appearance and the simplest form. There are practically no curls in them, but there are bends.
  • Art Deco. The design looks expensive and natural. Stamped blanks cannot be used here. Each detail is exclusive, it must first be drawn.
  • Romanesque. When decorating, fairy-tale scenes, plant and animal ornaments are used. Characteristic are symmetrical patterns and semicircular arches located above the entrance.

Color range

Gates can be painted in any color. Choosing the right shade is an important step in installing the structure. Not only the appearance of the product itself, but also the general perception of the entire site depends on it. Professional designers have developed a number of rules that should be followed when designing an entrance fence:

  • The tone of the gate and fence should be combined with the shade of the roof of the house.
  • Black color is universal. It looks great against any landscape.
  • White, light gray tone allows you to visually increase the area of the fenced area.
  • Blue coloring will create the effect of merging the fence with the surrounding space.
  • Green should not be chosen if there are a large number of plantings on the territory.
  • A bright background looks impressive, but quickly tires.
  • Dark colors do not attract attention. This design is suitable for those who like privacy.
  • When covering the support pillars with brick or stone masonry, the colors of the forged elements are limited to brown and beige.

Manufacturing technology for forged elements

Technological processing of metal includes various methods. When performing forging operations, a specialist uses different techniques, uses special tools, giving the material the required form and dimensions. To get started self-production gate, you should familiarize yourself with existing technologies. Forging is the high-temperature processing of a metal workpiece. Its special type is the cold method.

Blacksmithing is taught in specialized educational institutions. If it is not possible to take special courses, then you can try to master the process yourself. To do this, you can use specialized literature, study master classes, existing part sizes.

Cold forging and necessary tools

The method of cold metal processing allows you to deform it without heating. This method does not require special blacksmithing skills, so it has become quite widespread. Using this technology, you can make beautiful gates yourself. Most of the parts are made by hand; some forged elements (leaves, flowers, patterns) will have to be purchased ready-made. Having firmly decided to make a structure at home, it is worth considering a number of points:

  • the process takes quite a long time;
  • when the rod is deformed in this way, its strength characteristics decrease;
  • straightening an incorrectly bent workpiece is problematic and sometimes impossible;
  • the work will require special devices;
  • purchased or self-made equipment may not be needed in the future;
  • despite possible difficulties problems that may arise during the work process, homemade entry fences will cost much less than purchased models;
  • To give the structure a finished look, you should think about purchasing ready-made forged fittings.

To create parts you will need the following machines and templates: bender, snail, wave, twister, flashlight, globe. It is not profitable to buy equipment for individual production of elements. Its cost will pay off only after making several fences. To save money, you can make the simplest devices yourself. The only tools you need are welding machine and Bulgarian.

Hot forging is one of the ancient methods working with metals, it has not lost its relevance even now. This is how unique products are created, often made to order. All elements are made by hand, each of them is exclusive. The essence is to heat an alloy of iron and carbon (steel) in a forge or furnace, after which it is given the desired shape.

When working, they use different tools: hammers, sledgehammers, pliers, anvils, bending forks, blacksmith's chisels, nailers, ironing irons. Forging blanks requires a specialist to have some experience and knowledge in the field of heat treatment of materials. Metal overexposed in the furnace will lose its properties, become more brittle, and defects, such as cracks, may appear during processing.

In the absence of special education, skills, and equipment, it will not be possible to professionally create forged elements at home. However, you can try to prove yourself, organize a workplace using accessible, relatively inexpensive equipment. You can use a piece of rail as an anvil, weld a forge using improvised means, and provide air supply using a vacuum cleaner.

Features and installation rules

Installing wrought iron gates is quite a difficult task. As with any job, construction skills will be required. The first step is to install load-bearing supports, which are the basis for any entrance structure. When choosing a suitable profile, it is worth considering the weight of the entire structure. It is recommended to cover the installed racks brickwork, which will increase their stability.

Under each pillar it is necessary to dig a hole up to 1.5 m deep. Compact the bottom, fill it with a cushion of sand and crushed stone 30 cm thick. Then install support posts, level them, and concrete them. When installing rail sliding gates, you will need to pour a strip foundation along the entire path of movement of the gate.

After a week, when the concrete has dried, you can begin installing the gates. On the welded frame, the seams should be cleaned, the metal should be coated with an anti-corrosion compound, primed, and painted. Afterwards, you need to attach the finished frame to the installed posts, try it on, and weld reinforced hinges to the posts. Hang the sashes and check them for proper opening.

Corrugated sheet is a profiled steel sheet made by cold rolling. It's quite thin and durable material. Thanks to its coating, it is resistant to various precipitation and is not subject to corrosion. This building material is quite simple to work with and easy to care for.

Profiled sheets are used not only as roofing, but also when arranging fences, they line gates with it. Its main feature is its light weight. It does not weigh down the massive forged structure. The corrugated sheet has an attractive appearance and allows you to hide the fenced area from prying eyes.

Wrought iron polycarbonate gates

In combined fencing they can be used as cladding different materials. One of them is polycarbonate. Its widespread use indicates high quality polymer plastic. There are two main types of this raw material: monolithic and cellular. With their help you can create unusual designs.

Recently, this building material has been used in the construction of fences and gates. It is characterized by good sound insulation, high strength. It is quite easy to work with and can be given any shape. Its light conductivity plays a special role. There are transparent and matte models.

Wooden gates can be quite attractive, but only if you take into account all the necessary nuances when installing them. Knowledge of the technology for their creation greatly helps to save money and get the result you need.

There will be no need to explain to designers and developers what exactly is required of them, to carefully select the delivery package, and so on.

Peculiarities

Gates can be made from wood either sliding or swinging; No one makes them lifting or lifting and turning, because this excessive complication of the design is not always feasible.

The type of wood laying allows you to make the fence either continuous or intermittent, divided into blocks.

Advantages and Disadvantages

The obvious positive aspects of wood are:

  • Availability. Finding suitable material in any quantity is not difficult;
  • Relatively affordable prices. Much less than the cost of metal for a similar structure;
  • Ease of processing and installation. Almost anyone can make wooden gates, and their installation is much simpler than installing steel ones;
  • No need for welding equipment;
  • Quite long service life and the reliability of the created structure (if everything is done correctly and care is in accordance with the norm);
  • Easy to repair. Replacing a board is much easier than correcting defects in a metal sheet or profile.

The disadvantages of wood are also quite obvious: they are comparatively lower strength and susceptibility to fire (special processing only reduces it, in addition to increasing the cost of the entire structure). It will be necessary to treat wooden products with means that stop the rotting process.

Species

It is not at all necessary to create simple wooden structures, a very smart step is to use beautiful gates. The main difference is always how the parts are connected to each other. The traditional solution is a swing product, which is simpler to make than other types and serves without fail for a long time.

We can distinguish such groups of wooden gates as:

  • "Chess";
  • Made from picket fence;
  • Solid closed fences.

Sheathing is done both on a metal frame and on a wooden one. In urban conditions and with an acute lack of space, sliding structures are in demand much more than classic swing systems. The only problem is that they are much more difficult to create and require the mandatory involvement of professionals.

Please also note that the bearing mechanism with automatic rollers is expensive and capricious, and can easily fail if handled carelessly. You can mount carved elements on any type of wooden gate from above, below, or on the front plane.

Materials

Wooden gates will show all their advantages only with careful selection suitable material. In many cases, they simply use wood-clad steel frames- This is a relatively heavy option, but it is stronger and safer than a solid wood structure.

Expensive valuable wood species are used only occasionally, in most cases limited to simple pine parts. After all, they are quite beautiful, allow you to create a pleasant appearance and at the same time are very resistant to destructive influences. Budget projects involve the creation of gates mainly from picket fences.

Dimensions

Standard gate sizes are 300-400 cm wide. Please note that your needs may be much more important than this generally accepted standard.

When the site is being built up, it is advisable to make a wider passage so that trucks and special equipment can easily pass in and out. Be sure to leave a gap from the bottom edge to the ground, otherwise, when snow melts, ice crust forms, or after heavy rain using the gate will be inconvenient.

Style and design

Gates with an “antique” look look elegant and romantic, and this is exactly the case when pine details are unsuitable. A relatively economical solution to the problem is the use of larch, and its density makes it possible to prevent the effects of many negative factors.

As an option, you can use iron gates with forging elements that imitate the look natural wood. It would be even better to fill the doors with wooden parts. Bolts equipped with a semi-countersunk head without edges will help to connect such dissimilar materials. The frame needs to be drilled, then the boards are pulled to it using 2 or 4 fasteners. The nut is always left with inside designs.

How to do it yourself?

Anyone can make wooden gates and gates, even people who do not have much experience in such matters. But success cannot be achieved unless you prepare a good set of tools and materials. It always includes:

  • Pencils, rasps;
  • Squares, screwdrivers, levels, screws;
  • Planes, plumbs, crowbars;
  • Containers for preparing concrete mortar;
  • Wooden beams;
  • Metal constipation;
  • Canopy;
  • Loops;
  • A set of slats or picket fences for the outer cladding of frames.

Before purchasing lumber, you should find out required size(height) of the structure, the size of the gate. We must not forget that it will be necessary to bury the support pillars 1 m into the ground, otherwise stability cannot be guaranteed.

Before installation, each wooden post soak completely antiseptics, and the underground parts are additionally treated with resins or bitumen mastics.

The territory must be prepared: stones are removed, lumps of earth are broken and it is leveled. It is advisable to mark support points and installation directions using stakes and cords. It is almost impossible to complete all the work alone, so assistants are always invited. The sashes can be hung only after the concrete has completely dried.

Installation of pillars goes like this:

  • Use a drill to make a hole 100 cm deep;
  • Make sure that the planes of the pillars facing each other are slightly further apart than the width of a standard gate;
  • In this case, the distance should not exceed 1.2 m;
  • The hole is sprinkled with sand to a depth of 0.05 m and thoroughly spilled with water so that its shrinkage is completed as quickly as possible;
  • Add 50 mm of crushed stone;
  • The underground lobes of the pillars are fired using gas burners or blowtorches;
  • Guided by the measurements, the pole itself is placed using a plumb line, covered with crushed stone and compacted;
  • The stone cushion is covered with cement mortar on top.

The frame for the sashes is formed using a jigsaw, which can easily cut out pieces of timber of the required length. The ends of these pieces are drilled and wooden nails are driven into the holes.

To attach the jumpers, take galvanized self-tapping screws and place them horizontally or diagonally. Be sure to sheathe the frame with slats, otherwise the gate will easily sag and quickly deform. Burrs and other imperfections in wood can be easily removed when using planes with a well-sharpened working part.

Solid gates are formed by laying boards with slats nailed onto the frame and drawing cutting lines. If the top is rounded, it is most convenient to mark it with a compass. Lattice structures are more complex; here each slatted structure will have to be marked and cut separately. Connecting structural parts will be simplified if you use wood screws.

When installing a gate, always make sure that it is securely locked and does not swing open on its own. Only after eliminating this problem can you install the bolts and lock.

The best option for fittings is factory-made stainless steel structures, anodized metal performs a little worse. Attaching the gate to brick pillars it is possible if a couple of loops are left outside at the time of their construction. It is advisable to use bolts to connect the overhead parts of the hinges with the horizontal crossbars of the wickets or gates.

Wooden gates or wickets can even be hung on metal or concrete poles. This is done using suspension units, which include a hook, nuts and a clamp (a couple of units are enough). To be able to install a lock, a loop is made near the bolt in such a way that the shackle will also go onto the handle. To paint wooden gates, it is recommended to use polyurethane-based yacht varnish as it is the most durable and reliable. But it should also be applied in at least two layers.
