How to close a double-glazed window. The plastic window does not close well

These days in construction, instead of wooden windows Plastic windows are most often used. The frames of such windows are made of a material called polyvinyl chloride, so such structures also have another name - PVC windows. Also, in the manufacture of plastic windows, double-glazed windows and complex mechanisms are used to operate the handle for opening and closing windows.

Causes of problems with closing plastic windows

Often, after several days of using polyvinyl chloride windows, various kinds Problems. There can be many reasons for this: improper operation, correct installation, defects of manufacturers and others.

In general, be that as it may, you need to know what problems may arise and what are its causes, which will be discussed further:

  1. Clutch of the plastic construction sash to the frame. Often, when closing, the sash simply clings to window frame. The reasons for this may be the following:
    • The window frame is installed incorrectly. In this case you will have to reinstall window unit fully. But before that, you still need to check that the installation is correct. To do this you need to arm yourself with ordinary building level, with which you can determine the deviation from the horizontal and vertical positions. If everything is installed normally, then the reason may be as follows.
    • The sash of the structure exceeds the maximum permissible size.
    • With sudden and frequent temperature changes, a double-glazed window begins to try to take the most stable position.
    • The solution is manual adjustment. There is no reinforcing profile installed in the sash.
  2. If this is the case, then it is necessary to change the sash, and the double-glazed window can be taken from the old sash. Below are the most common causes of problems that may arise when closing plastic windows. The sash handle is loose.
  3. This occurs due to the loosening of the bolts that press the handle to the window. The handle turns with difficulty.
  4. Most often this occurs due to the fact that the pen was of poor quality.
  5. When turning, the handle jams and creaks.

What to do if the sash does not close tightly

  1. Another problem that arises among owners of plastic windows, and which requires an immediate solution, is incomplete closing of the windows. In order to strengthen them, you can use a regular screwdriver. Just remember not to strengthen it too much, as this can damage the sealing tape.
  2. Seals. Also, the reason why plastic windows do not close tightly can be that the seals simply deteriorate. Seals are a common material that, like everything else, wears out. In general, it is recommended to lubricate the seals with glycerin once every 12 months to extend their service life, but experts still advise replacing them with a new one. The replacement process is quite simple. To do this, you need to remove the old seal, clean the frame from dust, lubricate everything with glue and apply a new seal.
  3. Sash hanging. This is an equally common reason. The fact is that the double-glazed window is a rather heavy material, as a result of which the sash can gradually hang. To correct the situation, you need to use a hex wrench.

Replacing gaskets

Sealing gaskets are designed to protect residents from cold that can penetrate from the street, from noise, and from moisture. But the sealant also loses its properties over time, and then the material needs to be replaced. This work is not such a labor-intensive process, so by following the algorithm of actions that will be given below, you can do it yourself.

But before you start work, you need to check the availability of the following materials and tools:

  1. Glue.
  2. Scissors.
  3. Seal.

  1. You need to remove the old sealing material, after which you need to clean its place from dirt and dust, armed with a brush. After cleaning, you need to wipe the area with a cloth.
  2. Now you need to apply glue to the corners and to those areas where the new sealing material will be fixed.
  3. Then you can begin laying the sealant cord. Excess parts must be cut off with scissors, and the joint must be glued with glue.

That's all! The old seal was replaced with a new one.

What to do if the plastic window does not close

Very often in practice, when using plastic windows, you may encounter cases when the window simply stops closing. This problem also requires serious attention and must be resolved immediately.

The main reasons for this are as follows:

  1. The sash sags. This problem is more common in large structures where the sashes are very heavy. The absence of an erroneous opening blocker usually causes the sash to sag. The fact is that if, while tilted, you accidentally pull the handle in the wrong direction, the sash hangs on just one hinge. To avoid such troubles, you need to install an erroneous opening blocker. If it is not possible to install it, then before turning the handle, you should firmly press the sash against the frame.
  2. The sash handle is locked in the folding position. This is one of the most common reasons. It occurs due to the fact that the so-called “scissors” (one of the types of fittings) come out of their grooves. If this happens, then you need to do the following:
    • You need to remove the sash.
    • Then you need to find the design scissors.
    • Now you need to press on the lock and put the handle in one of the positions. You need to twist it until it becomes clear where to insert the scissors.
    • Now you need to secure the sash again.

What to do if the handle is blocked

Modern plastic structures have protective mechanisms for fittings, one of which is a locking mechanism. It is located under the handle, and to set it in motion, you need to press a special button.

Sometimes there are cases when the sash is open and the user accidentally turns the handle. In this case it works defense mechanism, and the handle is completely blocked. It is not recommended to use force, as this can only worsen the situation.

In this case, you need to do it another way:

  1. Loosen the fastening.
  2. Tighten the special screw that is intended for adjustment.

If these measures do not help, then you should call a specialist. You should know that to prevent similar problems from recurring, you should under no circumstances touch the handle when the sash is open.

Checking windows

Wherein Special attention the following characteristics must be taken into account:

  1. Purity. There should be no marks or dirt on the glass unit and on the frame.
  2. Number of double-glazed windows. If the structure is single-chamber, then there should be 2 double-glazed windows, and if there is a two-chamber window, then the number of double-glazed windows should be 3. This can be easily checked. To do this, you should bring a lit match to the surface, and by the number of reflections you can judge the number of double-glazed windows.
  3. Configuration. It is necessary to check whether everything was done as specified in the contract.

Now you need to monitor the work of the installers. When working, pay attention to the following details:

  1. Removing the old window. It is necessary to ensure that the installers dismantle the old structure without any damage, if such was specified in the contract.
  2. Preparing for installation. Here you need to ensure that the installers clean the area from dust, dirt and residues that remain after dismantling the old window. They must also check verticality and horizontality.
  3. Sealing. When installing a new window unit, some space remains between the frame and the wall. This frame should be sealed with foam and waterproofing tape on the outside.
  4. Examination. After completing the process of installing a new window, you need to check whether the seams open easily, whether the seams are neatly sealed, and all other details.

Instead of wooden window structures, most houses have long been replaced by plastic products. They are better by creating a special microclimate. But what if plastic window doesn't close? First, it’s worth clarifying the cause of the malfunction. Perhaps a small one will help fix the problem. Offers information about the most common causes and ways to eliminate them.

The procedure for troubleshooting a problem depends largely on the reason why the window does not close. In some cases, you can repair plastic windows yourself. Sometimes you can't do it without the help of professionals. Check out the most common reasons. Perhaps you can solve the problem yourself.

A video on what to do if a plastic window does not open will help you cope with the difficulty that has arisen.

The sash is warped: how to open a plastic window and then close it?

Even if the installation of a plastic window was initially carried out according to all the rules, over time the mechanism may lose its properties. The consequence is sagging of the sash, which can complicate the process of opening and closing the window. To eliminate the problem, you should adjust the angle of the sash itself and the position of the hinges.

The work is performed in the following sequence:

  • The decorative coating is removed, under which the position of special gaps at the top and bottom of the end side of the hinges is determined. Some manufacturers make them for a Phillips screwdriver, some for a hex screwdriver;
  • The position of the adjusting screws changes. They may need to be tightened by 1-2 mm;
  • The window should be opened/closed several times to ensure that the sash position is adjusted. If everything is done correctly, there will be no question of how to open a plastic window.

Loose fit of the sash to the frame

Most often, the reason for a loose sash fit is not a failure of the mechanism, but a violation of the basic rules for operating a plastic window. At the moment when the window closes, the sash should be pressed as tightly as possible to the frame. If this is not done, the handle will slip past the grooves, leaving a small space.

Another reason for a loose sash fit is the incorrectly selected position of the eccentrics. With their help it is produced. In the first case, the fit is not as tight as in the second. By changing the position of the eccentric, you can achieve a tight fit.

They deserve special attention. They are followed by not only washing, but also lubricating with silicone grease. Otherwise, there is a high probability of cracking and loss of their properties. After replacing the seals, the sash will again begin to fit tightly to the frame.

The handle is jammed (in different positions)

Handle jamming – common reason, through which the plastic window does not open. This type of malfunction is indicated by the fact that the handle stops turning at all, or significant force has to be applied to turn it to the final position. The cause of the failure is a malfunction of the blocker, which is located at the bottom of the closing block.

During the repair process, the blocker should be pressed down and then the handle should be turned up. By pressing on the top of the window, we lower the handle so that the sash can close. Opening the window, we check the functionality of the system.

If the handle still doesn't move smoothly, it may be lacking lubrication. In this case, having purchased silicone or machine oil, pour it into special holes located on the sides and in the upper part of the sash. The use of other compositions is unacceptable.

The sash opened for ventilation and swinging open simultaneously (double opening)

The reason for double opening is that the sash is not pressed tightly at the moment of closing, which is why the mechanism occupies an intermediate position between “ventilation” and “full opening”. Appears as a result of improper closing of the window. To troubleshoot the problem:

  • move the handle to a position parallel to the window sill;
  • press the sash as tightly as possible to the frame;
  • lower the handle down;
  • check how the window opens/closes in both positions.

Sometimes the above manipulations do not allow you to get rid of the problem that has arisen, which indicates that the “scissors” are flying out of the grooves. The functionality of the mechanism can be restored in the following sequence:

  • turn the handle up. If difficulties arise, press the blocker and then repeat the turn;
  • adjust the position of the elements tilt and turn mechanism for plastic windows, ensuring that they fit into the appropriate grooves;
  • lower the blocker;
  • We check the functionality of the handle.

Attention! When turning the handle, special attention should be paid to the movement of the “scissors”.

If you still have questions about how to adjust a plastic window that doesn’t close well, watch the following video:

The handle got loose

Sometimes you may encounter a situation where the mechanism does not hold well, since the fittings cannot mate with the stem. In this case, controlling the handle is quite difficult, and sometimes almost impossible. You can restore the functionality of a loose handle by tightening the fasteners.

Having turned the plug located at the base of the handle 90 degrees, tighten the two adjusting screws using a screwdriver and return the plug to its original position. If the handle still does not hold well, it will have to be replaced with a new one.

The handle doesn't turn

If you cannot turn the handle of a plastic window, do not use excessive force. This will definitely cause it to break. You can correct the situation as follows:

  • remove the sash: having removed the trim from the top hinge, pull the hinge pin down. It is worth using available means and tools to first “pick up the pin” and then pull it out;
  • remove the sash from the lower hinge by lifting it up;
  • remove the sash to the floor;
  • return the scissors mechanism to the desired position. This can be achieved by pressing the blocker on the end of the sash while simultaneously turning the handle;
  • we check the functionality of the mechanism;
  • install the sash in place.

Blocking the drainage bar

Sometimes the mechanism of a plastic window may work properly, but the sash still will not close. The reason may lie in the blockage of the drainage strip. This element is located outside the window. By returning it to its original position, you can restore the system to functionality.

Prevention and repair of metal-plastic windows

In order to avoid mistakes during the operation of the system, it is worth knowing the structure of plastic windows in advance. Knowing the main elements and the features of their interaction, it will be much easier to provide preventive actions and carry out repairs if necessary metal-plastic windows. We invite you to familiarize yourself with preventive and repair work, which you can do yourself to increase the service life of the installed window system.

Do-it-yourself repair of plastic window fittings

Even with relatively careful care of the window system, repairs to plastic windows may eventually be required. The main reason for this is dirt and dust getting between moving elements.

Sometimes even at the installation stage when performing finishing works Inside the house, the windows are left open. In this case, whitewash may get into all transmission mechanisms, and you will have to repair it just now installed windows. You will have to carefully go through everything to restore its functionality. Anyone can do this kind of repair of plastic windows with their own hands. For this:

  • remove the decorative trims from the loop, and then remove the axle from the top loop. It can be picked up with a screwdriver or knife, and removed using pliers. It’s worth using someone’s help, since the plastic window is quite heavy, and the additional load on the bottom hinge is unacceptable;
  • We place the sash on the table and begin to remove the handle;
  • unscrew all the screws with which the fittings were attached to the sash;
  • remove the mechanism from the special groove;
  • carefully puts the accessories on the table. In order not to lose anything, it is worth covering the oilcloth in advance;
  • We thoroughly and carefully wash all the fittings. Please pay attention to the presence of mechanical damage, chips and abrasions. If there are any, some parts may need to be replaced;
  • dry all the elements. You can use a hair dryer or bicycle pump;
  • we lubricate the elements with a special lubricant, paying special attention to rubbing parts and transmission elements;
  • return the fittings to their place and carefully screw them in place;
  • install the handle;
  • hang the sash;
  • We check how the window opens and closes.

Lubrication of moving parts

When setting up plastic windows with your own hands, you should pay attention to all the fittings, which in modern plastic windows are represented not only by handles and latches, but complex system rods and hinges located inside the frame. With their help, the sash can be opened in several modes. In order for the system to work properly, lubrication of moving parts should be carried out in a timely manner by performing the following operations:

  • removal of dust and dirt;
  • pouring lubricant at certain points;
  • verification and .

How often these activities will be performed depends on the region and area of residence. In large industrial centers, lubrication of moving parts of a plastic window should be performed at least twice a year. Otherwise, it may fail to close due to continuous deposition of suspended dust present in the air. IN rural areas The frequency of lubrication can be increased to once every two years.

The substance used for lubrication must have a suitable composition and consistency. Preference should be given to:

  • spindle mineral oil intended for lubricating elements of sewing machines;
  • liquid automobile oil sold in aerosol cans;
  • special compounds intended for plastic windows.

Advice! To determine the position of the moving and locking elements, it is enough to open the sash of the plastic window and, turning the handle, inspect the ends of the frame. The rollers and latches that need to be lubricated will move at this moment.

The listed compounds are not suitable for window seals. For them, it is worth purchasing a silicone-based composition, since rubber or silicone rubber is used to make seals. After high-quality lubrication, such products become more elastic, and therefore can last much longer when exposed to dust, moisture, and temperature fluctuations.

Attention! When lubricating working units, do not allow contact mineral oil on the sealing elements.

To ensure that your plastic window lasts as long as possible, we suggest taking the advice of professionals. It is very important that:

  • The installation of the plastic window system was carried out by professionals. They are familiar with the installation procedure and also have necessary tool and equipment;
  • the plastic window was manufactured by a trusted manufacturer who uses high-quality fittings and materials;
  • When closing, the sash was not subject to significant impact. Excessive pressure on the handle can damage the mechanism and it will not close;
  • do not hang things on the sash;
  • Conduct an annual preventive inspection to ensure there is no damage and ensure timely lubrication of moving elements;
  • prevent mechanical damage to the elements of the plastic window block;
  • do not leave the plastic window in for a long time open position or a ventilation mode in which the hinges bear the maximum load;
  • promptly clean the mechanism from dust and dirt;
  • periodically open the sash, for example, in winter period to prevent the mechanism from stagnating.

Article

Incorrect operation of the sashes is a fairly common problem that almost every owner of a plastic window has to face sooner or later. Before you decide to try to repair a window yourself, you need to learn about its design, the features of its operation, and how you can deal with minor problems that arise from time to time when a plastic window does not close.

  • Show all

    The window opened in two positions at once

    This can happen when you try to open a sash that is already set to ventilation mode. Visually, the fault looks like this: the sash is slightly open, its upper edge has moved away from the frame, the handle is locked in a horizontal position.

    This position is undesirable for a window system, since the entire weight of the sash falls on the lower hinge, which can lead to its breakage, so you need to act quickly enough.

    To return the window to functionality, you need to perform several steps:

    1. 1. Disable the blocker - this is a part whose function is to prevent the window from breaking if it is used incorrectly. Depending on the design features, this can be done by pressing the trunnion-shaped lock against the sash seal or by installing a metal tongue located near the handle parallel to the sash. If there is no blocker, this item is omitted.
    2. 2. Firmly press the upper corner of the sash from the hinge side to the frame.
    3. 3. Close the window by turning the handle all the way down.
    4. 4. Now all that remains is to make sure that the window is functioning normally by trying all possible modes one by one.

    Disabling the blocker

    The window will open in two directions and if you try to set the already open sash to ventilation mode, only in this case the handle will take vertical position.

    The procedure is the same, only after the upper corner of the sash is pressed against the frame, the handle should be installed horizontally.

    If the window opens in two positions at once, even with correct operation, there may be several reasons for this:

    • the hinge at the bottom has sagged and needs to be adjusted;
    • the blocker has failed (happens extremely rarely);
    • The scissors, the hardware element that holds the sash in the “ventilation” position, have broken. More about it in the next section.

    How to wash the windows on the balcony from the outside without streaks: safe ways

    The window in ventilation mode cannot be closed

    The most likely reason for this behavior is the so-called “scissors” coming out of the grooves - a fitting element located at the top of the sash and necessary to ensure the folding position and keep it tilted.

    Provided that there is a sufficiently large gap between the upper end of the frame and the slope, you can feel by touch to find the grooves into which the ends of the “scissors” should be inserted, and put them in place. To do this, you will need to turn the handle after pressing the lock, as described in the previous section.

    If this is impossible to do (the slope is in the way), then you will have to remove the sash, which will require the following steps:

    1. 1. Remove the protective pads from the hinges.
    2. 2. Using a knife or screwdriver, pull the pin down on the top hinge and remove it.
    3. 3. Slightly lift the frame and remove it from the bottom hinge.
    4. 4. Install the “scissors” at the end of the sash.
    5. 5. Return the sash to its place, making sure that the “scissors” take the right place on the frame.
    6. 6. After completing the repair, check the operation of the window by opening and closing it several times in all modes.

    The sash is quite heavy, so if you have to remove it, it is better to call someone for help.

    Problems with handle and lock

    Sometimes a plastic window in a room or on a balcony does not close because of the handle that controls the sash and its installation in one of three possible modes, as well as because of the blocker responsible for its mobility. The most likely malfunction is when the handle does not turn all the way.

    The handle is blocked and the window cannot be closed

    This happens if the lock is triggered due to the handle being changed too quickly. It is enough to simply disable it, depending on design features, pressing it against the seal or installing it parallel to the sash, as described above, then set the handle to the normal position. After that, check its operation. To avoid this problem in the future, no need to pull the handle, it’s better to do it turns smoothly and the blocker will not operate.

    The reason may also be that the blocker does not engage with the stop. Accordingly, when closing the sash, he cannot take a vertical position and unlock the handle. This is due to incorrect installation or thermal expansion of materials due to extreme heat. To repair the window, unscrew the stop, place a flat thin spacer under it, or move it slightly up or down.

    Sometimes the reason that a window cannot be closed is that the lock clings to some structural element. It is necessary to open the window and carefully inspect the sashes: usually a black mark remains on the problem area. Remove the blocker, install a gasket between it and the element to which it clings, and put the blocker in place.

    The handle is difficult to turn

    If the handle is difficult to turn or does not reach the extreme position, then the culprit may be a lack of lubrication or drying out (during prolonged use). In the upper part of the sash and on its sides, you need to find special holes through which to lubricate, using machine oil or a silicone-based compound intended for this purpose. Turn the handle several times to evenly distribute the lubricant.

    Vaseline or any other substances should not be used for these purposes. vegetable oils, gels intended for shoe care: all these substances become more viscous over time and prevent proper operation mechanism. Don’t get carried away by generously pouring grease on the fittings: this will not make it work well, but will only lead to the appearance of unsightly streaks on the frame and oily drops on the floor.

    If the above actions did not help and the handle still turns with difficulty, then the cause of the heavy movement is debris and dust that has gotten into the mechanism. In this case, you will have to give up trying to get the sash back to functionality on your own and call a technician.

    Displacement of one of the eccentrics

    If the handle is open sash and when the lock is turned off, it turns freely, but when closed it remains motionless, it is quite possible that one of the eccentrics has shifted (this is a structural element that regulates the tightness of pressing the sash), and now rests against the pressure bar located on the frame.

    In this case, it is necessary to either raise (lower) the bar, or adjust the position of the sash itself.

    If the handle does not turn completely either in the closed or open position, regardless of whether the lock is disabled or not, then this means only one thing: one of the fittings has failed and requires replacement. You can’t do this without the help of a specialist.

    The handle dangles and turns

    The cause of window problems may be insufficiently strong fastening of the handle itself and the lack of contact of its rod with the closing fittings. If the handle begins to dangle in its socket, to scroll, if turning it does not affect the position of the sash in any way, you just need to tighten the two screws holding it. To gain access to them, the handle must be installed horizontally and, slightly pulling out the plug located at the base of the handle, turn it, setting it parallel to the handle.

    If necessary, you can do it yourself complete replacement handles by unscrewing the screws using a Phillips screwdriver, removing the old handle from its socket and replacing it with a new one.

    First, it is advisable to find out and eliminate the causes of the breakdown. old pen. There may be several of them: poor-quality material, insufficient lubrication, foreign body getting into the mechanism (in this case, when turning the handle, a creaking and crunching sound is heard), incorrect position of the valves (sagging, distortion).

    Problems with hinges

    If the window has been in use for a long time or errors were made during its installation, the hinges may be the reason for the improper operation of the sashes. Insufficient lubrication is indicated by heavy movement of the sash, creaking and clicking. You will need to remove the protective plugs and apply lubricant to the hinges, then open and close the window several times.

    Clogging of the hinge mechanism is a more complex problem, the solution to which will require removing the frame in the manner described above. Next, you should inspect the ends of the sash and hinges and remove large dirt from them. After this, it is necessary to wash the hinges and the mating parts located on the sashes using a brush and special liquid. When the cleaned elements are completely dry, they need to be lubricated and the sash should be hung again.

    Loosening the adjusting screws

    In this case, the sash may sag or skew, which will lead to its malfunction. To return the structure to functionality, you will need to adjust the screws using a hex wrench.

    First you need to understand where the sash is tilted or shifted. The distortion is usually invisible to the eye, but marks remain on the rubbing elements. You can also diagnose skew using a level.

    Then you need to remove the plugs from the hinges and make adjustments. It must be remembered that turning the screws of the lower hinge moves the sash in all directions, and turning the screws of the upper hinge allows you to move it only to the right or left.

    If the sash is sagging (too high), the lower hinge should be adjusted by placing the key vertically in its upper hole. The sash is either lowered by turning the tool counterclockwise, or raised by turning the key clockwise.

    The displacement of the lower part of the sash to the side is also eliminated by adjusting the lower hinge. To move it to the right, the horizontally mounted key is rotated counterclockwise, to the left - in the opposite direction.

    When moving the upper part of the sash, similar actions must be performed on the screws of the upper hinge, if possible: there are window systems in which the upper hinge is not adjustable, and the position of the sash changes only due to the lower one.

    Sometimes drainage strips are installed on window sashes. They are located outside, at the bottom, and are often displaced for one reason or another. This can also interfere with the normal movement of the valves. It is necessary to open the window and move the bar so that it fits correctly.

    The door doesn't close tightly enough

    In this case, all the fittings function normally, the handle is turned all the way, but there is still a small gap between the sash and the frame.

    Possible reasons:

    • The seals have lost their elasticity, and you will have to replace them with new ones, after first removing the dirt that has accumulated there from the grooves. To avoid this in the future, it is necessary to regularly wash the seals and lubricate them with silicone compounds intended for this purpose.
    • The eccentrics located at the end of the sash, which regulate the pressing density of the sash, are set incorrectly.

    The eccentrics can occupy three possible positions. A weak clamp is used in the summer because it provides a small gap between the sash and the frame. The standard mode is good in moderate cold, but in severe frost it does not provide sufficient tightness. With the arrival of winter, you should ensure tight contact between the frame and the sash, for which you need to adjust the eccentrics by setting them to the “strong pressure” position.

    Depending on the features of the fittings, this can be done with pliers (for the eccentrics shown on the left in the figure) or with a hex wrench. It is not at all necessary to set the eccentrics to the strongest pressure - you just need to periodically check how tight the contact between the sash and the frame is: usually a small turn is enough to restore the tightness of the window.

    The eccentrics should be adjusted along the entire perimeter of the sash, and then carefully lubricate all moving structural elements, otherwise the window will be difficult to close, which can lead to breakage of the handle. Excessively strong pressure is also undesirable.

    Care should be taken at the installation stage to ensure that the plastic window “acts up” as little as possible, and that diagnostics and troubleshooting take a minimum of time.

    The basic rule: do not prioritize cheapness, since cheap window in the future it is expensive, requiring constant attention and considerable time and financial costs.

    It must be remembered that an indispensable condition for trouble-free operation of a window system is:

    1. 1. Correct installation: the frame must stand strictly vertically, be firmly fixed, and there must be a gap between it and the window opening (in case the building shrinks). The doors move freely and silently, without clinging to anything.

From the article you will learn:

PVC windows are gradually being replaced modern life other types of window structures. Almost every building is equipped with these plastic products. The first structures began to be installed more than ten years ago and over the years they began to fail. Some breakdowns are quite easily eliminated, allowing you to extend the service life of the window product.

Reasons for a poorly closed window

The sources of malfunctions may be different. Already after the first five years after installation, the first malfunctions appear, but in some cases problems arise much earlier.

If you examine the broken mechanism, you can identify the reason why the window began to close poorly. The issue may be either the low quality of the fittings or errors during installation or incorrect adjustment. There is an even simpler source of the problem - failure to follow rules when opening and closing windows.

It is much worse when closure does not occur at all. The causes of such a malfunction may be the following problems:

  1. Sagging of sashes on hinges.
  2. The handle is blocked.
  3. The scissors fly out of the grooves.
  4. The sash clinging to the frame.

All of the above situations can be resolved without turning to specialists.

Procedure

You should immediately warn that if you do not have experience in repairs, it is better to call a specialist. Each malfunction can have the most various sources, which requires a thorough study of the problem, even when very simple actions need to be performed.

A structure with double-glazed windows can be quite heavy, up to one hundred kilograms. Incorrect adjustment and malfunction of the mechanism can lead to complete glass falling out in any direction - outside or inside the room. This will entail more serious consequences for client.

If the purchased structures are under warranty, it would be best to contact a specialized service center. Then professional craftsmen will perform work to restore the working condition free of charge, within the framework of the warranty card.

If the mechanism is jammed and the sash cannot close, to avoid damage to the fittings, no need to try to force the handle back to its original position.

What to do if the window handle is jammed

In order to prevent accidental failure, erroneous action blockers are often installed in window structures. It is designed to prevent the sash from opening in the folding position. The operation of a low-quality locator sometimes leads to jamming, which makes it impossible to turn the handle from the folding position to the side opening option.

The most common source of the problem is a loose fit of the sash to the frame when opening from the side. The mechanism, which has not yet had time to move from the folding position, closes too early. The situation threatens to block the handle, while the entire window section is forced to rest on a single support hinge at the bottom of the structure. Repair actions do not involve removing the sash. It is enough to make simple adjustments to the operation of the blocker.

The location of the blocker is at the bottom of the closing block. You need to find it and move the handle to a vertical position, while simultaneously clamping the spring. The upper left part of the sash is pressed against the frame, moving the handle down. Complete failure of the blocker requires calling a window technician to avoid the risk of more serious malfunctions of the plastic product.

Poor closure of the handle and jamming in most cases can be resolved by lubricating the rotation mechanism or loosening the clamping mechanism. To ensure that the seal is not pressed too tightly around the perimeter of the flaps, no effort is required, and to lubricate the handle, you will need to remove and disassemble the flap.

Actions to take if the window sash is sagging

The large weight of massive wide sashes often leads to sagging of the sashes. The source of the problem is errors during the installation of the window product and the irregularity of the structural adjustments made.

The basis for fixing the sashes are hinges, and with constant use of the window, there is a risk of sagging. As a result, homeowners face difficulties when closing the doors. Adjusting the hinges will help get rid of sagging. Adjustment can be made by removing the decorative trims from the hinges. There are special gaps on the hinges themselves, different in appearance various industries. To work, you will need a Phillips screwdriver or a hex key. Tighten each hole on all hinges. For adjustment, as a rule, it is enough to move only 1 mm. Proper execution procedure will help get rid of sagging sashes.

What to do if the scissors fly out of the grooves

In the absence of a blocker, careless opening of the window can lead to opening in two directions at once - vertical and horizontal. As a result, all window design is attached to a single hinge. To eliminate the malfunction, remove the sash from its hinges. Remove the plastic pads and press on the hinge pin. Once the pin is carefully pulled out, the window section is removed.

After the sash is removed, the handle turns upward. If jamming occurs, press on the window blocker and repeat the action. If this does not help to turn the handle, the scissors are inserted into the required grooves. The scissor system can be found at the top of the hinged window section. In the working position, the scissors are tightly pressed against the sealing rubber. By pressing the blocker, the handle turns and the scissors begin to move.

They are adjusted so that as the scissors move, they smoothly enter the grooves. Anyone can determine the location of the grooves. The next step is to check the operation of the handle without a blocker. Proper functioning of the handle without a lock means the problem has been eliminated. The sash can be reinstalled on the frame.

What to do if the window jams when opening

Hello. I have long wanted to talk about what to do if the window does not close or open. It seems the time has come to devote an article to this topic, especially since the topic is of significant interest.

If a plastic window does not open, the fittings are jammed, which means that to solve this problem you need to at least have a general understanding of how windows are adjusted.

On average, 5 years is the period that is enough for any, even high-quality fittings to require adjustment. For simple debugging and adjustment of fittings, you can invite specialists who installed double-glazed windows. But, this service will be paid, and therefore it is better to learn how to cope with this task yourself.

What to do if a plastic window equipped with Maco fittings is jammed

Modern plastic double glazed windows, equipped Maco fittings, are widespread everywhere because they are distinguished by reasonable prices and high quality assemblies. However, this fitting has one significant drawback - it jams from time to time. As a result, when the sash is closed, the handle does not turn. We will consider a similar situation in this photo report.

So, the handle is stuck in the closed position, you are at a loss and don’t know what to do. On the side where the glass unit is hung on the hinges there is a small gap, and the handle turns slightly due to a small backlash.

Common situation?

Solution

You can open the door as follows:

  • We stand in front of the window;
  • We insert our fingers into the gap between the sash and the profile near the hinge;
  • We try to widen the gap by forcefully pulling the sash towards us;

  • At the same time, turn the handle to the open position.

Most often, this method of opening a jammed window works. But keep in mind that you need to move the gap apart and turn the handle not one by one, but synchronously, otherwise nothing will work.

Is the problem solved? Only partially, since we only managed to open the sash and there is no guarantee that next time it will not jam again.

Instructions complete solution the problems are as follows:

  • We open the sash and, armed with ear sticks, clean the space between the frame and the strike plate, since the accumulation of dirt can prevent the free penetration of the pressure eccentric;
  • We look at the position of the clamping eccentric;

Most window installers set the eccentric to the maximum pressure position. This is done in order to adjust the fittings for a long time didn't get lost. But in reality, maximum pressure is the most likely cause of jamming.

  • We change the position of the clamping eccentric from horizontal to diagonal or vertical;

  • We check the functionality of the window several times and, if there is no jamming, the problem is solved.

During operation, the locking hardware becomes loose and will need to be tightened. Since we installed the eccentric vertically, about once a year we inspect the double-glazed window for a leaky sash rebate. If the rebate is loose, tighten the clamping eccentric so that it is located diagonally.

What to do if the window does not close tightly and the profile rubs against the frame

The situation is the following - the window does not close well, namely the profile catches the striker in the upper corner. This is a very common problem that is typical for either cheap or old double-glazed windows.

What is the cause of the problem? Everything is very simple here: if the sash is wide open for a long time, it sags on the hinges under its own weight. That is why the problem is typical for double-glazed windows that do not have a hinged opening of the sash, which is more gentle on the fittings.

But, in this photo report I will consider a difficult case, namely, the flap touching the frame and, as a result, a bad sash.

In the photo you can see the essence of the problem, namely the contact of the striker and the sash. And in the next photo you can see a metal bar that limits the position of the sash when tilted.

I believe that by adjusting this bar it will be possible to solve the problem.

Solution

The instructions for setting up the vestibule with your own hands are as follows:

  • We open the window wide, since in this case we get access to the upper profile of the sash;
  • We see the bar and find the adjusting bolt on it;

To adjust the bolt, you will need a 4 mm hex key. If the window has not been adjusted for a long time, I advise you to moisten the thread of the bolt with WD-40, since in this case the soured bolt will be easier to turn in the thread.

  • In order to tighten the upper corner of the sash, rotate the bolt clockwise;

The result of the adjustment is the optimal rebate

  • Every 2-3 full revolutions we check the closing of the window and, if everything is in order, the adjustment can be considered complete.

So, we have sorted out the touching of the profile and the striker plate, but the rebate is still not tight enough. How to solve this problem?

  • We inspect the sash and find the lower hinge;

  • The loop is covered with a plastic casing; to remove it, pry the plastic up with a screwdriver from below and carefully pry it off;

  • Before us metal loop in the lower part of which there is an adjusting screw;
  • The screw is adjusted using a special key or using a screwdriver with a special attachment;

  • To press the sash, rotate the screw clockwise;
  • Every couple of turns we check the glass window rebate.

By the way, at the top of the hinge you can also see the adjustment screw. What is he responsible for?

By accessing this screw, you can raise or lower the frame vertically. Of course, the setting is insignificant, but if the horizontal one is rubbing the sash, using this setting you can eliminate this problem.

What to do if the double-glazed window does not close or jams when turning the handle

I encountered this problem myself after using the window for two years. One day the handle of a plastic window got stuck in the open position.

The reason was the following: the clamping mechanism did not reach the striker and when closing the sash either did not open or closed only once.

Due to my youth and inexperience, I solved the problem by dismantling the strike plate and then installing it with washers. Thus, the striker was moved approximately 1 mm closer to the clamping mechanism. As a result, I achieved good fixation of the sash without regular jamming.

As it turns out, there is an easier way. Window hinges have side adjustment screws that are located at the end. These screws are responsible for moving the sash back and forth horizontally.

The problem that I solved by placing washers is solved by unscrewing the adjusting screws counterclockwise. Of course, every 2-3 turns of the adjusting screw we try how the window closes and, if the problem is resolved, the subsequent addition should be stopped, since if you pull the sash too close to the pressing mechanism, it will begin to rub against the frame profile.

Conclusion

Based on the photo reports proposed in the article, I will note the following. Modern double-glazed windows with frames made of PVC profile very reliable and durable. Therefore, if a plastic window is jammed, you can be 99% sure that the problem can be solved correct setting accessories.

I hope that the article was useful to you. If you encounter reasons for windows jamming that are not listed in the article, tell us about the problem in the comments, I will try to give useful advice. By the way, don’t forget to watch useful and interesting video In this article.
